[Error: unknown template qotd]My first concert ever was NIRVANA at the Mecca Arena in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 26, 1993.

It was epic before epic was epic.

However much I post about politics, I never post this kind of advertisement, but it's really very well done and quite inspiring.  My inner DJ and graphic artist think this is just a top-notch project.

1 - Go to wikipedia, on "random":
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band. I got Danco Island.

2 - Go to Random Quotations:
The last three or four words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album. I got "Nothing is easy to the unwilling." - Nikki Giovanni

3 - Go to flickr and click on "explore the last seven days":
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use Photoshop or similar to mix it all up. Post it.

And here you have it, my album:

It's been a long time, so I redid my journal design.

After seeing Juno, which was fluffy, quirky, and clever, I've become an instant Kimya Dawson fan.  I spent many years deep into the rave/techno scene, so it surprises me that I like the new folk/antifolk movement.  The two genres can't really get much further apart on the spectrum.  I love the low-fi - hearing thumbs on guitar strings and off-key mistakes, affected or not.  Jeffrey Lewis is another good one.  I realize Daniel Johnston was the low-fi pioneer, but I can't really get into him.  I liked the covers album, with other people covering his songs much better than I actually like Daniel's songs.  Bright Eye's cover of Devil Town is one of my favorites off that.

This semester I'll be taking Intro to Sociology, my prerequisite English course, and Intro to Film.  Classes start on the 15th.  No more night classes, so I'm pretty excited.  I fully expect to be an insufferable, pretentious, film snob by summer.

I have the day off tomorrow, and thus I am going to stay up late drinking Flying Dog Classic Pale Ale and fucking around on the internet, eventually making my way upstairs to feed the neighbor's cats while they're away (the neighbors, not the cats.)

Good times, cool beans, as them youngins used to say.

There is nothing I know except that,
this lifetime is just one moment &
wishing will just leave me empty.
So you can try and live in darkness,
but you will never shake the light.
It will greet you every morning,
   and make you more aware
   with its absence at night,
when you are wrapped up in your blanket,
      that comfortable cocoon.
But I have seen the day of your awakening boy,
      and it's coming soon.
So go ahead and loose yourself in liquor,
and you can praise the clouded mind,
but it isn't what you are thinking -
            it's the course of history,
            your position in line.
You are just a piece of the puzzle,
so I think you had better find your place.
And don't go blaming your knowledge
       on some fruit you ate.

In other news, I am now going to shamlessly promote my roommate's musical career.

His band's name is either Antilogic, Dripping Wet and the Muse, or Jack Disaster, or something else. They haven't decided yet.

He just posted some songs, just he and his guitarist doing an acoustic thing, on his MySpace Music site. They just recorded them on a CD recorder right here in the basement. He's been in the studio recording them for real, but alas, he's put up the ghetto recordings for now.

The song "Thoughts to Bare" is particularly good.

Check him out. Tell him he rules or he sucks or you want to have like 10,000 of his babies or whatever you think.

Ah, back in my youth, just after high school, I stumbled upon a local band who were just fabulous. I introduced my friends to the phenomenon and they too loved this magnificent band. They dedicated songs to our loyal group who touted their greatness at all turns; we advertised shows, danced our asses off at every one, attempting to go to every show we could to show our support, even two of my friends became their roadies and were nominated for a Wisconsin Area Music Industry award for Best Road Crew. Alas, all good things must come to an end and several years ago, the Little Blue Crunchy Things went the way of the dinosaur and were no more.

However, they are getting together for another show (and possibly more!) To show my appreciation, I have volunteered my artistic service and created a flyer for their Flashback/Reunion show. And I present it here for your enlightenment and education.

THE LITTLE BLUE CRUNCHY THINGS ARE BACK!
