Today, I have to do my first bit of homework.  Technically, I was supposed to have read the first chapter of my psychology book for class last week but the book hadn't arrived yet.  And when it did arrive, it was covered with plain white stickers which when removed revealed that it's an examination copy - not for resale.  Bastards, I paid $85 for this book!  (Which, by the way, is ridiculous.  I had no idea college textbooks were such an outstanding mafia-thug racket.)

I also have to write a paper, okay, technically an essay, four pages long, on my personality.  Not using anything from the book, just a description of my personality.  I think this will be more difficult for myself since I spent many years dissecting my personality, breaking it down and rebuilding it.  I know myself better than I probably should.  The next paper I have to write is on my personality - and the reasons I am the way I am.  I'm having difficulty figuring out how to separate the two.  On the bright side, the second paper will be a breeze.

Tomorrow, I have my first dentist appointment in, let's see.. six or seven years I think.  My teeth are fine and dandy, with the exception of a single cavity (albeit a pretty bad one, though my first and only) on my lower right wisdom tooth.  Though my previous dentist said not to worry, that I would be able to keep my wisdoms, I'm actually quite glad to be rid of them.  Hopefully my dentist will agree.  Which means I may have them extracted as soon as tomorrow morning.  Which will make work and class on Tuesday so supremely amazing.

Ethan is back in school also, beginning 7th grade.  He's got a fresh new wardrobe and enough school supplies to choke Godzilla's little nephew Godzuki.  Though he said he wasn't looking forward to school this year, he seems pretty excited now that it's started.  He's taking French this year and says it's his favorite class.  His English teacher is a bit like Delores Umbridge, apparently.  He's also switched to baritone saxophone in band.  Hopefully we can overcome the issues he had last year.  He got all A's and B's with the occasional C, all his teachers said he was a joy to have in class, extremely bright, etc... but that he seemed content with minimal effort, showed inconsistent effort, slacked off, or talked too much and goofed off a lot.  Not that I have much issue with goofing off a bit in school, but you know.

I suppose I'll go eat some breakfast now and then squeeze in a [profile] jackstaxi post before I dive into my psychology book.  It will probably be a beautiful day and I'll be stuck in the house doing homework.  Oh well, that's back-to-school, right?

oh don't get me started on the text book racket. When I was in school I hated selling the books back because I simply knew what a waste it was. I would buy them for 40 dollars and then "return" them for 15-20 dollars. The store I would buy at, off campus because the campus store was crap, had a really small storefront with two aisles. You would walk down one aisle, towards the back, and give the numerous clerks your class #s and they would go fetch the books for you. Then you would walk back towards the front and pay the cashiers. Of course the aisles were lined with overpriced supplies etc. As much as I hated them I was always impressed by their operation. It was quick, efficient and, it appeared, very lucrative.

as for the personality essay -- just do a few memes and use those as your basis! :)

Two years ago, when my wife asked why her biology textbook was $120 at the bookstore, the teacher mentioned that the Amazon is a river in South America.

Delores Umbridge huh? In a saccharin sweet or abject cruelty kind of way?

I've had math books that were $300 and not available used.

So, I just stole a bunch from the bookstore and sold them at various places until I felt like I had vindicated my bank account enough. :)

I'm so glad I'm not in the sciences, I would be spending a lot of time in the reserves section of the library.

I suddenly miss my media classes at MMI where my books were like $30 to $40 a piece (except the Adobe books, which were made on platinum, coated in diamonds and used by Moses as toilet paper.)

I'm lucky, all my books are available from the library - I haven't bought a book in over a year. The science textbook for my Women's Studies class, however, is 130 dollars and there are only four reserve copies for over 400 students!

That was the nice thing about Goddaard, I could basically pick all my books and they were CHEAP, (with the exception of some out-of-print Mircea Eiade books :P)

The MATC library doesn't even have my Theater book :P

hmmm

Jesus Christ don't get me started on my personality. ;) I would think a man who blogs as much as you do would be able to arrange a few paragraphs covering the salient points of your psyche... actually a review of your blogobehaviorisms would probably fill 4 pages easily.

Oh god you haven't gotten rid of your wisdom teeth? Thats gonna be fun.. I got all four out at the same time.. got dry socket (cause I ddin't stop smoking) and next to my lung collapsing it was the most excruciating physical pain I ever went through.. yeah.. so good luck.. on that.

oh, and text books.. umm yur on teh internet son.. arr pirate arr? Just a suggestion. I mean that tripe is a total racket anyway.. you would simply be defending yourself from outright corporate hostility. I mean I have heard more than one prof out right recommend a student photocopy the requisite chapters of a textbook from another students copy. Hell my western civ teacher said that the textbook was "hardly necessary" and that all the books we will be reading are available at the Gutenberg project.
