I've read a few random comics from Questionable Content over the years, but a couple days ago I sat down and started reading it from the beginning. I'm like 1100 comics in, so like 4+ years worth of comics in like three days. What's amazing is going back and seeing how bad the art was. And the artist got better and better and makes a living off of a webcomic. Weird.

fun fact! jeph hates his early art. or at least is so surprised about how far he's come. for the first QC book he re-drew most of the early ones.

Yeah, when I went back to the first comic, it was out of curiosity. I wasn't planning on reading the whole thing, but when I saw how bad that first comic was, I thought, "I *have* to see how the hell the art gets so much better!" I seriously thought maybe he got a different artist :P

apparently practice does make perfect. (or at least a whole lot better)

QC kinda rocked the webcomics world when it started. I picked it up back around strip 20, and it was already topping the charts even then.

When I'd read a random comic here and there, I thought it was okay, but not hilarious or groundbreaking, but now that I've been reading the whole thing, I can really appreciate it. I'm not used to webcomics having character development :P

That's why I make the art for two webcomics now. I'm far from being satisfied with the quality but it's a) good enough that people let me do it for them and b) I know it will improve by practise.

Nick went through the all from the beginning at study breaks during prelims. He also webcasts his actual process, including the playlist of music he is listening to at the time, it's very cool.
