One of my photographs, The Lonely Tree, sold at the gallery the other day.  It's the first bit of art bought by a complete stranger.  Unless you count the books of dinosaurs I drew and sold in second grade.  I had five books, all four or five pages long, filled with very accurate drawings of dinosaurs.  I went door-to-door in my little town of 250 people.  I sold them all for a quarter a piece.

It wasn't for me.  We were poor.  I think we used the proceeds to buy bread.

Wow. Simple and heartbreakingly poignant.

the books you sold as a kid totally count. what a sad story. but beautiful as well.

you've come a long way!

(I'm smiling at you.) it just kinda warmed my heart and I'm not sure what else to say....

The books, I think, were pity buys. This one is based soley on talent, I assume :)

Thank you.

I really want that Dry Dock one - does the price listed at the gallery include the framing?

Oh, then I want it! I'll bring cash tonight (cuz I totally invited myself over your place for dinner tonight, btw). Obviously I'll have to wait till the exhibit is over - that's cool :)

And you think you don't have anything to write a memoir about??

I want to time travel and take little Jeremy to the ice cream shop and buy him all the Transformers.

We talked about this - I hated charity. I would have run away from you, no matter the lure of ice cream and Transformers.

I'm sure this is also part of why I'm such an anti-materialist. I don't handle compliments well, I don't handle gifts well. Maybe as a youth, I always saw things given with strings attached.

But I am too clever for you! I would have bought your short stories and drawings, but paid with Rocky Road and Optimus Prime.

I've noticed. You're hard to take care of, you know?

I know. Imagine that - I'm probably the only Cancer in the world who isn't looking for a Mommy.

my friend josh and i used to draw (poorly)ultra violent versions of fantastic four and spiderman comic books and stuff and sell them for like, 50 cents, a dollar, whatever we could get. i think it was mostly neighborly pity, because our drawings weren't that good.

congrats on the sale though. that's a pretty big deal.

I figure that's what my sales were as well - pity. Too bad I can't capitalize on that with my photography. Too many starving photographers flooding the market.
