I stumbled across this series of photos wherein photos from the Siege of Leningrad are blended with photos taken in modern times.  It is very haunting.

Oh my gosh, I saw those in [livejournal.com profile] warren_ellis's blog a few days ago- they are stunning!

Some of them were just "Okay" in my opinion, but the one you posted here absolutely gave me chills!

This may sound a little new-age-woo-woo, but when I walk in cities, and particularly in older cities, I feel like I am walking through scenes like this.

Wherever I live, I look up old photographs of the city and when I walk around I can see how everything used to look. I do the same thing on the highway in the middle of nowhere - I just mentally erase everything man-made from the landscape and imagine that I am the first human to see a pristine landscape.
