I planned badly. I didn't think to bring a lunch today and I also have no money. I am very hungry. I won't be home from school until 6pm. Is it manorexia if it's only for one day? I have two TicTacs left. That will have to do.

A bright note, I have a haircut appointment set for tomorrow. That's nice. I need one.

Bad news? It's supposed to rain and/or snow practically nonstop for the next week.  That means no bike-riding, which is not nice.

Good news? Umm... I uh, don't know.

I am actually bored. Weird.

I am disappointed that I'm not liking The Crying of Lot 49 more.  Whenever I read something that is universally panned as the coolest thing ever and I'm not 100% in awe of it, I feel lacking, as if I'm too dense to get it.

Jacquelyn is heading off next week to Boston for a conference and leaving me to my own devices while she hobnobs with famous scientists and dazzles them with her dizzying intellect.

I watched part of The Corporation in sociology today and the section about commercials and marketing, especially toward children scared me to death and made me very proud that I do not have any sort of broadcast television.  I get my TV on DVD through NetFlix, so I bypass all of the consumerist brainwashing videos commercials.  We watched another video on trade with a lot of emphasis on the fair-trade coffee industry and I was very happy to know that I buy fair-trade.

Seriously, fuck the World Trade Organization and the World Bank.  When I am King of the World, I'm going to have to dismantle them and start over from the beginning.  This is not the way to build a one-world government.

Thirty-five minutes until my next class.  If I keep typing, I forget that I'm hungry.  Maybe I'll drink a quick gallon of water or something.  Hell, I fasted for three days once, I can do this.

And just for the amusement:

Have you ever seen Black Gold? It's about fair trade coffee. My opinion on fair trade coffee is this: if you can't afford fair trade, you can't afford to drink coffee. It IS a luxury, despite what Starbucks' marketers would have you believe. And no, Starbucks's "fair trade" does not count, because they subsidize higher prices for that coffee by paying their other growers less. Also, they tried to PATENT the name of a region of Ethiopia, which is a big WTF. That's like California patenting the name "Madison" for their milk.

Drinking water helps. I hate when I get stuck on campus and forget to bring food or money. If I were there I would give you food :( Maybe you should rub some road grime in your hair and make a sign on cardboard saying "will write/make lj icons for food", and stand about looking underfed and waifish outside the library.

Black Gold is the doc we watched in sociology :) I kind of see everything green/organic/etc like that - if you can't afford the better product, you can't afford the product. Of course, putting this into practice is difficult, especially when the nearest grocery store to your house is Copps and doesn't carry a lot so sacrifices have to be made. Not on coffee though. I'd always been a bit of a coffee snob anyway.

Jacquelyn informed me that Espresso Royale takes checks, so I might do that. It's better than trying to look underfed, as I've been packing on the pounds all winter long :P

I agree on organic/green. It's kind of nice realizing how much crap you don't really miss when you stop buying it. Also, there are affordable ways to get really awesome organic produce if you can make time for things like work trades with local farms, etc. Then it's kind of fun, because you end up with weird veggies that you have no idea how to make, and then you have to have an experimental kitchen adventure to use them!

Checks, pshaw. I suppose that's an easier solution.

Jacquelyn and I keep meaning to join a CSA but haven't gotten around to it. Bad procrastinators, bad!

My good friend Kriss Marion has a CSA farm and she needs members! She also does deliveries. They have great food. If you email me I can forward you her brochures and stuff and you can get in touch with her if it sounds like a good fit for your household? My email is gretchentreu@gmail.com

Ok, but you have to roll a wino for wine so we can have a proper meal.

I've been able to get by an entire day without eating or drinking anything, so I think you should be good. Just drink plenty of water. :)

The prospect of snow makes me a sad panda. But the prospect of getting my haircut next week makes me a happy one. So I guess it all evens out.

It should do me good since I want to lose some weight anyway. Starvation works, right? :D

Balanced panda?

Actually, drinking lots of water will make you hungrier. It aids in digestion, meaning that food leaves the stomach more quickly. Therefore, you become emptier, faster.

I wrote a check at my coffee house and got a turkey & avocado sandwich. It was the best sandwich ever.

It's my in-case-of-emergency thing and a sort of, it-never-leaves-my-bag thing.

there's a movie coming out called "the battle for seattle" that's about the WTO riots in seattle. It's got too many stars in it to have a...realish...feel to it, unfortunately, but it might be good. Who knows.

I understand. I will remove you from my flist as well. Hopefully you two can patch things up. From my limited perspective and understanding of the context, this is a misunderstanding exacerbated by emotions unrelated to the other person. Who can say?

Good luck and I hope the wedding is perfect!

I feel the same way when I read a book that everyone gushes over, like I am a literatard or something.

As you probably read, my family and I gave up the tube a few months ago, and I, like you am loving it. I don't miss commercial television at all, and Netflix has opened me up to a lot of new films. There were TV shows I thought I would die without that I just no longer even care about. This week at my conference my friend that came with me kept the TV on constantly and I actually found it incredibly intrusive.

I'm glad I finally caught something awesome about that book :)

Same here. I find it's so easy to waste away on the TV. Oddly, I have no problem wasting away on the web :P

The general layout is a default LJ layout. It's very mutable. Good luck.
