delta

the pins in your nose when the litter needs changed
and stacks of reminders you forget to remember
a pillow stained not once but twice
with forgotten sweat and breakfast tears
below the desk beyond the shore
old habits die hard
so it's said
so it goes.

I'm suddenly not in the mood to just wait for things to happen.

This has been MOVIE WEEKEND, apparently. It didn't start out like that; this isn't something I planned. It just sort of...happened. Oh and there might be spoilers, I don't know yet. Here, dear reader, are the results:

I watched Le Pacte des Loups, aka The Brotherhood of the Wolf. I think the French title sounds better. They mean the same thing, essentially, but Brotherhood of the Wolf sounds corny as hell, and is probably why I never rented it before. I also hate overdubs in movies, so I watched it in it's original French with English subtitles. My mind does this odd trick where after fifteen or twenty minutes, I stop consciously reading the subtitles, and my brain just translates it to English. When I try to remember parts of foreign movies I've seen, I remember their lines in spoken English. Of course, if I take my eyes off the screen, it breaks that level of concentration and I have to start al over again. It's things like this that give me hope I can subconsciously teach myself French. I'll get to France and after 15 minutes, I'll understand everything! Maybe not. Anyway... The Movie: It was good. The acting was superb. The special effects could have used some work, but the fighting scenes were great. The camera effects and transitions were somewhere between hypnotic and hallucinogenic. I think M. Night Shamylan stole some visual and story ideas for the Village from it, like the handicapped person is really bad and the look of the creature. Also Le Pacte used the old Flash Gordon pretend-the-hero-is-dead trick. They did catch me though; I really thought he was! Otherwise, it was set in one of my favorite time periods and the mood range was dynamic. I give it 23 Golden Donkeys.

I tried to watch Back to the Future II. I've always loved the original and I loved the sequels when I was but a wee lad. All I really have to say is that they're still good, family fun, and I REALLY hope the world doesn't look like 2015 did in that movie. I'll give it, oh... 13 Play-doh Flux-Capacitors.
The BttFII DVD was scuffed and wouldn't play correctly, so I had to shut it off less than 20 minutes into it. When I returned the movies today, they said, oh, sorry about that, go pick out a few movies on the house. What can I say, MORE MOVIES!

So then I watched SpyKids, a Robert Rodriguez film. Yes, the man that makes movies such as From Dusk Till Dawn, Desperado and Sin City, comes... some kids and a lot of James Bond 4 Kidz spy gear. I love the dichotomy. He also has a movie coming out, an CG thing about a Shark Boy. I suppose even kids need bad-ass action flicks. Seriously, I even saw it in the theatre and it was good. Not in a Citizen Cane/Shindler's List sort of way, but in that fun kid way. I'll give it 47 Platinum-plated Porcupine Quills.

AH, and enters the grandaddy of the marathon: Garden State. What can I say? I LOVED it. It's definitely getting purchased. I saw one episode of Scrubs and I thought Zach Braff had a lot of talent and potential. (Don't ask me how I know these things, I just do. I should be in casting, I have an weird intuition about actor/tress talent.) This has been my favorite Natalie Portman performance since the Professional. To be honest, I don't like her as Amidala/Padme in the Star Wars movies. Incongruous is the word, I believe. The movie is just amazing; always startling, always endearing and funny. It's warm and tragic, fun and real all at once. My favorite line: Have fun exploring the infinite abyss. It's such a traditional Hero/Fool journey. The protagonist, through trials and tribulations arrives at the Guardian of the Infinite Abyss. He's given permission from the Guardian to explore and learns an important TRUTH which he takes back with him, to the 'real world' and he is transformed. What else can I say? It was amazing. See it. I give it 100 Gazillion Widgets!

And this concludes my Movie Review. If any of you like my reviews and own a newspaper or other publication, I will write reviews for money. Seriously I will.

I'm not kidding.

Oh Yes

there are worse things than
being alone
but it often takes decades
to realize this
and most often
when you do
it's too late
and there's nothing worse

Ooooh...you're smart! You're mature and have a good understanding of
the finer things in life. ...AND you bless your worshippers, and
sometimes even non-worshippers. Plus you're pretty cute. I like this a
lot.

It's important to have the balance you have obtained. Obviously,
you make time for people as well as for yourself, and the time you make
involves actually living your life. This is a good example that you set
for others.

Jesus Spotted in Ultrasound

(From WTVG-ABC TOLEDO, OHIO), May 3, 2005 — Mother's Day is less than a week away and one Toledo mother has a special and spiritual story to share.

At 5lbs. 1oz., 3-day-old Aaliyah is a big blessing to her mom and dad. The proud parents say they received a sign she is special in an ultrasound photo taken about a month ago. After taking a closer look at the ultrasound they say there's an image of Jesus Christ in it. It's an image mom and dad say they can see in two of the ultrasound images taken that day.

Now my question is this: Regardless of whether this is a divine sign or whatever, there has been a significant increase in sighting of pictures like this.. Jesus in pizza and ultrasounds, Mary on overpass walls and grilled cheese, et cetera. Now, is this really an increase, or is it a product of media saturation?
