health in my head and heart

i took two asprin,
three coumadin,
and realized-
the word "headache"
leaves nothing
to the imagination
in the way
"mediastinal fibrosis"
does,
yet i have both-
one like an itinerant uncle
visiting infrequently,
always a hassle
but ultimately harmless
and the other,
like an alzheimer's grandparent-
so quiet
you almost forget
until
you have to change
their dirty diaper
or they strangle you
in your sleep.

I like the "dirty diaper or they strangle you in your sleep" line a lot. It's a nice closing.
