If all goes as planned, next fall I will be taking The Emergence of Human Culture, Shakespearean Drama, Intermediate Fiction Workshop, and Third Semester French.

I was worried for a bit that I wouldn't have the time to take all the courses I need for both an English and Anthropology degree, but if I can get all the classes I need, when I need them, I should be able to do it.

I need to take 42 credits yet and I've got time for about 55, so I think I even have a little wiggle room. Of course that means I might be concurrently taking some heavy seminars, but by then I shouldn't be taking any more French.

After this fall I will only have to take English and Anthro courses.

School is hard.

How is 112 going? Does it suck?

I've actually been meaning to tell you that it's almost exactly what you predicted - very interesting material taught in the most boring way possible. There's something in the way that S lectures that makes it almost impossible for me to pay attention. Otherwise the actual material is interesting enough.

She's not the most interesting lecturer... her voice is quite soothing and lulls me to sleep, LOL.

Pretty much, and she takes a while to get to the end of her sentences, or overly explains something that is already clear and my brain goes elsewhere. Also, makes jokes that are not funny. But she seems like a very nice person and competent academic.

It's not her favorite class to teach, anyway... I don't think any of the anthro faculty really enjoys teaching the 100 level classes.

Most faculty don't enjoy the 100 level courses too much. Most of the time, teaching Rocks for Jocks makes me want to kill things. The only exception is when I have an Honors section. :)

First: I LOVE your username! Also, I agree, 100 level courses suck all around, there's no interaction and most are just there for a gen-ed requirement.

Your upcoming semester plans sounds wonderful!! Speculative theory about the emergence of human culture (presumably some watershed between being a culture of primate animals and the first steps towards civilization), 3rd Semester French so you can read the ideas of Old Enlightenment in its native language, combined with the beauty that is Shakespearean Drama (all that Sound & Fury (read: insight, wisdom) dressed up in Elizabethan English); it all sounds wonderful to me, Jack, a rich banquet for your mind.

I agree, creative writing is hard; I suggest you approach it as art not science and have beautiful rock n roll time. The hard part in scholarship is balance (imo) to be both broad enough for relevance and narrow enough for focus. Good luck with all of it and thank you for all the many positive contributions you make to making our world a better place. I suspect you are also actively engaged in the Wisconsin recall election of plutocrats. Enjoy your many opportunities while on campus. Maybe you can sneak in an art or art history course, or something athletics like tai chi or karate, or maybe guitar or else just socializing with the other exciting up & coming students. Have a most excellent day and evening! :)
