The wealthy already know (or have been taught by the educated) that there are so many people on the planet as well as an end in sight to natural resources. They tried with Sarah Palin to get us to Drill, Baby, Drill the last of the oil reserves and imperil yet more of the precious unspoiled (or less spoiled) places remaining on the planet. Perhaps that is why we have Climate Change, perhaps the planet has discovered that as in ages past, the only way to continue is to start over. No doubt Father Nature (or if you prefer Goddess/mother nature) will keep those species that yet prove able to fit to a changing and changed ecology. We humans have had decades at minimum to Get It Right. We had marine biologist, Rachel Carlson, Joan Slonczewski, author of A Door Into Ocean, and many others, but I guess it matters only if a dude says it.

As you and the peoples of Wisconsin are discovering, what matters to the Dude is only that he and his get ALL your money, all the fruit of your labor and in return offer even less than classic Feudalism (as in those few nations and monarchies where the elite actually held up their end of the bargain by caring FOR the people.) Wage slavery has been around for a long time. I gather that the present Ruling Class is even less inclined to share with their social inferiors than their recent predecessors. Oh, these people were equally created all right, but given only every advantage wealth and power could give them. Those things alone did not grant them wisdom or compassion or even simply human Empathy. Rather they were taught to understand that they were special, that God looked after them and even that God wants them to be rich, else they would not be rich. This is very like the recent anti-woman woman who said she believes rape victims ought to be forced to bear the offspring of sexual assault, since that too is God's will. And so is the unwanted baby in the dumpster, both the kid and it's present location, God's will. It is the will of the people that allows 400 people approximately to own over 50% of everything in this nation. Or as Bill Maher said last night, Imagine 100 Americans receiving a Pizza with 100 slices and the first dude takes 80 of them before passing the plate.

Ours is indeed to Wonder Why, not merely to do or die.

In Solidarity with you and the good people in Wisconsin, Libya and other parts of the world working actively for Democracy and the overthrow, ideally peaceful, of tyranny. I guess we have to do this first before we can all (figuratively) hold hands to address global warming, green house gas emissions from Industrialization, as well as develop a more enlightened society and civilization with far fewer Plutocrats, if any. Maybe we can move beyond Plutocracy and War toward genuine Stewardship of the prettiest planet I have ever known. (At least this lifetime, if one goes in for that stuff.)
