I'm furious right now. The most honest man in America is dead. When I heard he was dead I was hit by the utmost dread and I suddenly felt like the American Dream finally died and living in this country seems so much more unbearable with the Good Doctor out of the way.

Hunter S. Thompson thought 9-11 was an Inside Job
"Well who stands to benefit? Who had the opportunity and the motive? You just kind of look at these basic things, and I saw that the US government was going to benefit, and the White House people, the republican administration to take the mind of the public off of the crashing economy. Now you want to keep in mind that every time a person named Bush gets into office, the nation goes into a drastic recession they call it. I have spent enough time on the inside of, well in the White House and you know, campaigns and I’ve known enough people who do these things, think this way, to know that the public version of the news or whatever event, is never really what happened."

Hunter on post-9/11 America
"The PATRIOT Act was a dagger in the heart, really, of even the concept of a democratic government that is free, equal and just. There are a lot more concentration camps right now than Guantanamo Bay. But they're not marked. Now, every jail, every bush-league cop can run a concentration camp. It amounts to a military and police takeover, I think. They get control of the U.S. economy, their friends get rich. These are not philosopher-kings we're talking about. These are politicians. It's a very sleazy way of using the system. One of the problems today is that what's going on today is not as complex as it seems. The Pentagon just asked for another $14 billion more in the budget, and it's already $28 billion. [Defense spending in the 2003 budget rose $19.4 billion, to $364.6 billion]. That's one sector of the economy that's not down the tubes. So, some people are getting rich off of this. It's the oligarchy. I believe the Republicans have never thought that democracy was anything but a tribal myth. The GOP is the party of capital. It's pretty basic."

Hunter was working on WTC story, warned he'd be 'suicided'
Hunter telephoned me on Feb. 19, the night before his death. He sounded scared. It wasn't always easy to understand what he said, particularly over the phone, he mumbled, yet when there was something he really wanted you to understand, you did. He'd been working on a story about the World Trade Center attacks and had stumbled across what he felt was hard evidence showing the towers had been brought down not by the airplanes that flew into them but by explosive charges set off in their foundations. Now he thought someone was out to stop him publishing it: "They're gonna make it look like suicide," he said. "I know how these bastards think . . ."

The Gun Wasn't Fired
The gun's magazine had six bullets left in the clip, but no bullet was found in the gun's firing chamber. I think a bullet from the magazine should have cycled into the chamber, but if there's a malfunction, they may not.

Hunter on the War on Terrorism
“The towers are gone now, reduced to bloody rubble, along with all hopes for Peace in Our Time, in the United States or any other country. Make no mistake about it: We are At War now—with somebody—and we will stay At War with that mysterious Enemy for the rest of our lives. It will be guerilla warfare on a global scale, with no front lines and no identifiable enemy. . . We are going to punish somebody for this attack, but just who or what will be blown to smithereens for it is hard to say. Maybe Afghanistan, maybe Pakistan or Iraq, or possibly all three at once. Who knows”? This is going to be a very expensive war, and Victory is not guaranteed—for anyone, and certainly not for anyone as baffled as George W. Bush. All he knows is that his father started the war a long time ago, and that he, the goofy child-President, has been chosen by Fate and the global Oil industry to finish it Now.”

I am a conspiracy theorist at heart. not because I'm goofy in the head. but because, really looking at situations in the cold light of day,... it seems entirely plausible that the conspiracy theory is muchly true.

I really would have liked to have read his book. I hope someone trustworthy has his research and notes and can do something with it.

I don't even know exactly what the Patriot Act says. Its like one day all of a sudden everyone was spouting it at me. Is there a website you know of where I can get info on it?

It would have been anti-climatic if hunter had made it to old age and decrepitude. It would have been as if what he said wasnt all that we knew it to be. Its not a question of when but how... he died fighting a war that only we can fight now.

Do you want to know what is in the patriot act? read "none dare call it a conspiracy" published in the early 60's it lays the whole plan out. A book about the future that now reads like a history...

The King of the American Dream is dead, Long live who? You?
I say,
May that PHD garner him a good seat, in view of both heaven and hell.

I bought "None Dare..." at a thrift store in 1998 for a dime. It was in with the romance books.

I read the whole book, but I also haven't read it since 1998, so my memory is a litte fuzzy on the details.

I should reread it maybe?

Dont listen to what I say

I never read the things!
I flipped it open and started looking, fortunatly the fella that was standing by had read the thing and pointed me from what I found to the list of predictions in the back. Coulda been some sort of "the prince" for a federal system, in the way it described the what was now then as the will be when it was written.
