That was pretty cool. I've seen a lot of bands do that. It's probably pretty disturbing to see someone get squashed like a toothpaste tube three feet from where you're singing.
I bet that's not the kind of suggestion you hear much at a punk or metal show. I'm sure those pits still aren't very civilized.
