Greetings!

I am blogging to you from the illustrious Buffalo in the great state of New York!

After a relatively uneventful drive from Wisconsin, we stopped for the night, dined at Ruby Tuesday, and passed the fuck out after marveling at the meta-ness trainwreck of Charm School with Ricki Lake.

Though, we did see some of the all-time douchiest driving ever.

A few hours today (pretty much the whole state of New York - this fucker is WIDE) and we'll be in Vermont and I won't have to think about the road (until Sunday when we drive down to Boston.)

Perhaps we'll finish Jacqueline Carey's Santa Olivia, which we read a little over half of yesterday.  I'm not totally sold, but it's entertaining enough.  I reserve my final judgment for its completion.

Continental breakfast, here I come!

Oh man, if I'd known you were stopping in Buffalo, I could've directed you to places much better than Ruby Tuesday's.

We weren't actually IN Buffalo - just off the interstate south. And it was late, and the restaurant was close to the hotel, and cheap, and I used to work at one years ago. I was very disappointed in the lack of baked potatoes.

Ah, yeah, there's not much south of the interstate. Northern Buffalo, you probably could've found a Jim's Steak-Out open till 5am and had the best spicy bleu cheese chicken finger sub ever.

Good to know - next time we'll push to the other side of Buffalo. :)

Other fantastic places to try in Buffalo if you're there during more conventional hours:

Fat Bob's Smokehouse - in the middle of downtown, best beef brisket and sweet potato fries ever.

Pizza Plant - they've got locations on the edge of town and have great calzones, deep-dishes, and a lovely rotating selection of microbrews.

Casa di Pizza - on Elmwood (think Willy Street), probably the best pizza in town.

Yeah, Santa Olivia has its moments but it never quite reaches the level of addictive crack as the Terre d'Ange books. I gave a short review of it here (http://were-duck.livejournal.com/82861.html) a couple of months ago, if you're interested.

I hope you guys have a splendid trip!

The only thing worse than driving the entire width of New York is driving the entire width of Pennsylvania - stay strong! Say hi to Vermont for me, I'm jealous :)

Having gone to college in upstate NY, your description made me smile in recognition!

Vermont is one of the most beautiful places in the world -- especially at this time of year. Smell some lilacs for me!
