The rain started early in the afternoon. The temperature was never close to warm. The brief sun did nothing. Quickly the rain catalyzed into thick invisible sheets, hugging every surface. Roads and sidewalks became frozen hazards - invisible injuries and potential for pratfalls. Through it, I drove, the rear wheels leaping from under me with the slightest tap of the accelerator. The sickening lurch of my heart in my throat, the flush of adrenaline in my face at each too-wide-slide and over-correction. I ate and drank panic for lunch.

I have a dehydration headache.
Ethan is getting an A in French.
Jacquelyn is doing a write-up of her presentation for a climate-modeling class.
I wrote my last paper for this semester, a two-page essay on Sidney Poitier and A Raisin in the Sun.

The warmth of new boots. And wool socks.

Is that a picture of the guy from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?
