The nurses took six tries to put in two IVs because I was a bit dehydrated and cold. (The humidity here is like 17%.) I gave a lot of blood, had two chest x-rays, an EKG, and and an MRI. All tests point toward normality. My potassium was a little low and I definitely don't have diabetes. I've met my nurses and my doctor's surgical assistant and a anaesthesiologist and a respritaory therapist and just now, my doctor. He has assured me this is a very safe procedure and compared to most other heart surgeries not very invasive. He said my biggest worry is bleeding and infection, which is less than one to two percent. So, uh, YAY!

My doctor also said that they would be taking pictures and video which I would get copies of. How cool is that?

Yay video!

Can we have a viewing party?

With heart-shaped cake?

Ow, missed IV's hurt like a mofo. Make them give you something fun for that one. : P

Sounds like a very intense day.

That's very reassuring news about the estimated risk. I'm extremely glad to hear that.

I'm definitely jealous that you get to have pictures of your own heart. What a surreal thing to see! It'll give you a good scary thing to say to children when you're old and grumpy. I HAVE SEEN MY OWN BEATING HEART!

Heh, sounds like the same IV nurse who prepped me for my last back surgery. Fun!

Btw, that's brilliant on the hospital's part putting Internet in your room. I wonder if they had the good senses to block access to WebMD? (Don't look!!!) ;)

Eeep! I get busy for a couple of weeks and all of a sudden, you sneak off for open heart surgery???

Hope it all goes well :)

I hope you have better luck with getting the video and pictures. My doctor was going to videotape my surgery but then the lawyers said no because they didn't want video evidence in case he messed up. So then they were going to do pictures and they forgot. Grrr, I was not pleased.

Well, hey- now you can add "human pincushion" to your list of achievements, since they had to stick you 6 times before they tapped you. How awesome is that, right? My personal record is 7 times, and then they called the doctor in who tapped me right off. Ugh.

Best of luck with everything from here out!

:)

That is so cool that you get video and such! Woo hoo!

It is now 3:00 and I haven't heard from your dad, so I'm getting worried. I hope he didn't call while I ran out to get lunch or the bathroom! You did give him my cell phone number too, right? RIGHT?

Not that you can answer this...but it makes me feel better to write to you.
