My Home Away From Home

I carry my bag with me wherever I go.  It contains all th basic necessities of modern life.  At least, my modern life.  Under the cut is the contents.

My  modern life needs a book to read, my clipboard for work,. my dane county map, my Union Cab street guide, my Swiss army knife, my tire repair kit, my set of Allen wrenches, a pen, a pencil, Tic-Tacs, my bike lock & cord, my iPod, my phone, my Moleskein, spare change, a coaster I stole from Chili's with a typewriter on it, my check book, a water bottle, and a red plastic case with a Bell sticker on it which contains ibuprofen, band-aids, ointment, and anti-bacterial wipes.
This is also in conjunction with the meme I was tagged for by [livejournal.com profile] irnbruise.

Cool. :) That doesn't look like so much stuff to make the bag look so full, but I guess all the books/maps take up a lot of room. Is the tire repair kit the thing above the swiss army knife? Interesting what a bicyclist has to carry around. I don't think my best friend carries so much around.. maybe I can make her a little kit as a present.

It's a wide-bottomed bag, so just setting it down makes it look fuller than it is. Add all those little things tucked into front pockets and it looks bulky :(

That is totally the repair kit above the knife. I am stupidly obsessed with being prepared, so if my bike breaks or I get a flat or whatnot, I'm not stranded. Plus, one must be prepared at all times for the zombie apocalypse.

If I had a wide-bottomed bag I would want it to look full and not 75% empty.

I was telling my best friend about this and she was like, "But once a tire is flat, it's flat." I guess she's lucky so far that she's never needed repair while on the road. And I agree about the zombie apocalypse - I need to have one of those special zombie-killing weapons in World War Z.

Ah, but once a tire is flat, you can pop it open, find the hole in the inner tube, patch it, walk yourself to the gas station and fill it back up and WHOOOOOSH! away we go. I've had to do this once and I was not prepared, thus I am now. You never know when some bastard is going to bust a beer bottle on your bike path and fuck up your day :(

See, not being a biker myself, I never would have thought of that. But that's pretty straightforward! I think I shall try to put together a little repair kit, with the wrenches, for a holiday gift. It seems practical and continues the biking theme as I gave her some (requested) athletic wear for her birthday.

I've never tried Moleskins. Are they as religiously orgasmic as people claim? Or are they just a damn bit better than standard notebook?

They're cool and convenient, especially the ones with the pockets in the back cover. No orgasms though, just quality paper.

The local bookstore sells a three-pack of the smaller ones. Maybe I'll give 'em a whirl.

I love the stuff memes. THey only seem to go around when I stop carrying my bags. I think my current bag is too heavy and is giving me back issues. :(

I'm going to do Face Your Pockets soon. (http://www.faceyourpockets.com/index1.html)

I have to adjust the strap on my bag constantly because it messes with my back. I have to have it set differently depending on if I'm walking or riding my bike :P
