I was just reading this article...

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran has drawn up plans to bomb Israel if the Jewish state should attack, the deputy air force commander said Wednesday, adding to tensions already heated up by an Israeli airstrike on Syria and Western calls for more U.N. sanctions against Tehran.

And I wonder, besides the whole "War is wrong in any circumstance" view, why is this a bad thing? If some country said they were going to attack the U.S. wouldn't we say, "Hey, if you do that, we will retaliate."

Please, people, don't believe the war machine. We are being pushed toward war with Iran and that is unnecessary and completely stupid.  And Israel?  Seriously, dude, stop it.  Stop bombing your neighbors.  Seriously.

I'm thinking all aid we send to Israel (or any other country for that matter) should be on a sliding scale depending on how nice they were to other countries.  You bomb someone, you get nothing.

Hah, funny icon.

For what it's worth, I think the "push towards war with Iran" is a stance being taken for diplomatic reasons, not something that the administration is actually moving towards. I know the left is very worried that this is build up to a new aggression, because of its similarities to Iraq. But from what I've been able to read and understand of foreign policy over there, it's simply important to our strategy to make noise about pursuing Iran, just as it's important to their strategy to make noise about nuclear programs and causing unrest in southern Iraq. What anybody is actually likely to do is very different.

Nice headline, right? Reminded me a bit of last week's "Bush agrees to troop cuts' or whatever it was right before nonchalantly moving into the opposing revelation like there was no distinction. Hillary Clinton scared the bejezzzusfuck outta me the other day and I am open to all sorts of reading into the shit that's PLAIN AS DAY. We are NOT moving toward a free society. This is not a series of unrelated happenstances. There is a narrative being directed, strings being pulled. This does not have the poetry of nature.

Fuck.

I don't talk about it often because I don't like the conversations it leads to, but I absolutely believe war is wrong no matter what. Killing people is wrong. Period. Even if they tried to kill you first. War is short-term thinking. In the long term, killing leads to more kiling, war begets war, end of story. The only way to achieve peace - in the long term - is to refuse to participate in violence.

Are we counting car bombs? Suicide bombers? Or only official, government sanctioned bombings? What about funding some radical other group in another country so they'll go bomb someone?

It's a great idea in principal. In execution it would get sticky.

This is the solution I'd like to see as well, but it's never going to happen. Israel basically has carte blanch with the United States. And that's the whole problem -- their neighbors may be crazy much of the time, but Israel gets crazy too and there's nothing to keep them in check. We give them so much money and weaponry that no one in the Middle East has a chance of going up against them with conventional warfare. Hence all the terrorism.

Personally, I thought we should have broken off all aid to Israel considering what they've done to Lebanon in the past year. And I don't know if you remember, but in the 80s we gave Israel plans to the F-16 Falcon (further bolstering their ridiculous military advantage in the region) and a few years ago we found out that they had sold a lot of the plans to the Chinese! Being a bad neighbor is one thing, but biting the hand that feeds you? If this isn't a case of someone needing to be taught a lesson, I don't know what is.

A lot of our problems arise from the Israel issue. Don't get me wrong, I be a-lovin' the Jews but we have a very unhealthy relationship with Israeli government and particularly the Mossad. There are a lot of funny stories circulating about Israeli Mossad agents in the U.S. hooting and hurraying when the Towers went down. The conspiracy suggests that we think - who benefits from the U.S. going to war with all of Israel's enemies? Israel.
