Good Morning, World.

As of 4:13 am, I am thirty years old.

This means that three decades have passed since I passed from my mother's womb into the bright and frightening light of this world.  It's been a good time.  Mostly.

Three decades ago, it was the year of our Lord, 1977.  Punk exploded all over everything.  Star Wars premiered.  Jimmy Carter became President and immediately pardoned all the Vietnam draft dodgers.  Chiron is discovered.  Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden was also born this day.  Elvis died in his bathroom.  There was no internet.

Yesterday, [personal profile] brdgt and [profile] strangedasein called me up and took Ethan and I out for a nice birthday lunch.  (Ethan's birthday is this coming Monday, the 16th.)  They utterly surprised us with gifts - Ethan a new Clone for his Star Wars collection, and I with a very funny card, an air pump, and a speedometer/odometer for my bicycle.  Which pretty much rules.

Afterwards, we went to the theatre to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which also pretty much ruled.  My only real criticism is that I could tell that Steve Kloves, who has done all of the Potter screenplays thus far, didn't do this one.  (He took the time off to do the screenplay for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.)  He will be coming back to do the last two films, thus I am much relieved.

The Iowa crew - [profile] choogy, her "les husbou", and Justin - also sent me a great card insinuating that while it may be my birthday, tomorrow is "just another day in the dark parade.  The parade where the candy is pain."  Oh, it's such an emo birthday!

Also, faithful reader [profile] dakinigrl gifted me with two months of paid account time.  That rules too.  (Thank you!)

Jacquelyn is in Ohio for a research trip.  She and several other researchers are coring a lake there which will be used for her dissertation.  She'll be back next week sometime.  It is very odd indeed.  I keep expecting her to come around a corner or through the door any moment.  One might even say I miss her.  Yes, definitely.

Ethan and I will probably go for a long bike ride later today.  He's finally gotten to the age where he likes to sleep in, rather than get up at 5:30 to play video games.  We stayed up late last night watching Corpse Bride and Goblet of Fire (since we were in a Harry Potter mood.)  I was woken up by little kitty in heat and one of the other cats growling at a stray cat outside the living room window.  Figured as long as I'm awake I should update the ol' ElJay and hit you all up for things off my Amazon Wish List.  Snoogins.

Ta-ta for now.

Thank you!

I am quite frankly excited to be 30 - out of my twenties, at any rate :D I've always felt that my thirties would be when everything ramps up, that everything I went through in my earlier years would crystallize and propel me into the lovely, exciting future. Or that's a load of bullocks, but hey - I'm excited.

The card was a lovely surprise and is totally a gift unto itself. (Especially after I pull a MacGyver on it and turn it into a plasma television.)

Ethan's still a tween - he turns 12 on Monday :)

I was temporarily absent from the planet yesterday, so please accept my sincerest birthday wishes today. Here's to anothere 3 emo decades! After that, it's ok to lighten up.

Also, LJ tells me it was also [livejournal.com profile] jackstaxi's birthday. It's a small world.

Happy belated birthday. Did you wake up yesterday and have a philosophical "One year older - what have I learned? What am I grateful for?" conversation with youself. I always do.

And for some reason, I always stretch to see if my body feels any older.

I kind of do the philosophical bit every day, which is probably not a good thing ;)

I've recently taken up bicycling and I feel great, better than I did last year or possibly even the year before :)

HAPPY BIDDY! sounds like you've had a great time, wishing you a wonderful year!

i saw HP yesterday and i really liked it. i was a bit miffed about one or two plot points which were changed from the book but overall i liked this one the best out of the whole series.

Gratzi!

I've learned to ignore plot issues with the movies. I only get occasionally irked when they leave out a favorite scene (like when Harry aces his DADA O.W.L.!) This one was good, but Azkaban will always be my favorite film/movie (unless 7 kicks so much ass I can't even handle it!)
