Finished A Prayer for Owen Meany... most heartbreaking book I've ever read. Cried like a baby. Hate John Irving. Fuck you John for making me care.

Watched the 1963 The Lord of the Flies... nature documentary cinematography, bad child actors.. needs to be re-done, but won't because it's two hours of naked boys. Oops, I guess it was redone in 1990. Guess I'll watch it and hope. Maybe I should read the book.

Watched About Schmidt... Jack Nicholson doing the Bill Murray thing... older guy learns about his wasted life... pretty funny, odd, endearing. Beware... mullet alert and a naked Kathy Bates.

Tried to watch Futurama... still convinced that's a crap show. I've never giggled even once.

Played more Baldur's Gate II... completely stuck... there's still missions to do, but I can't figure out how to trigger them... don't want to sail away yet. Bastards.

Don't know what to read now... might dig into the Satanic Verses if I can't get my hands on the second George R.R. Martin book.

it really took a while for me to get into futurama but after about three attempts over a year's time it clicked and i now consider it one of the best tv shows of all time. it seems pretty superficial and lacking at first but for those who take the time and have initial patience it actually ends up being quite a multi-layered story with lots of sentiment and intelligence.

i understand if you just aren't into though, your comment about not giggling even once reminds me of my feelings for 'seinfeld'- i've tried watching it many times and it just is not funny, AT ALL. at least not to me.

Wow, I don't know if I can do it. Ive tried to watch it three times now and I can't seem to make it through an episode without my attention wandering. It's like there's nothing to lock me into the story and it's hard to care what's going on when the characters seem so unmemorable. Except the asshole robot. He's kinda funny in that evil-Homer sort of way.

Seinfeld is a show that's sort of grown on me since it's been in syndication. Most episodes and eh, giggle, eh, but others are pretty funny.

futurama is utter crap, i never understood what anyone else saw in it.

you should read the world according to garp next. it's almost as sad but there's a lot more whimsy especially in this fairy tale that the main character makes up throughout the book's middle. it was sooo very good.

I think that evil robot is finny, but the rest of the characters are totally forgettable.

I don't think I can read John Irving for a while. I like him probably almost as much as Robbins, but he's not as fun as Robbins. Irving is too heavy.

Futuram is more than an acquired taste, I've never gone
out of my way to watch it, or not to change the chanel
because the story lines are forgettable.

The Satanic Verses I read quite a few pages of,
unique writing style, very reccomended.

I've always wanted to read the Satanic Verses since I heard what it was about. I study all religions and spiritual systems and the premise of this book is right up my alley.

I didn't like Futurama when it was on. But I've caught re-runs and now I really like it. The biggest reason is that they lay out story lines in season one they pick up in season 2 or 3 ect. There is actually thought put into the world you don't often see with cartoons. When you go back and re-watch it you can see "clues" you missed the first time around.

Lord of the Flies still creeps me out.

Someone told me LotF is a pedophiles wet dream... young English schoolboys, naked on a beach. Eeeewww.

I've tried waching Futurama like three or four times now and I haven't been able to keep attention for an entire episode yet.

I've tried liking Seinfield, still can't so I understand where you are coming from with Futurama.

"Futurama" is a terrible, terrible show.

Lord of the Flies is one of my favorite books of all time. Both movies are crap. I think the 1990 movie is even worse than the 1963 movie.

I moved around a lot as a kid, and somehow I managed to not be in a school the year they taught LotF, like it got taught in 7th grade at one school when I was in 6th there, but then moved to another school for 7th grade, but that school taught it in 9th, then moved again, etc... I got an odd education that way :P

People keep telling me Futurama is an acquired taste like coffee or beer, that it's deeper and more clever the more you watch it. Uh... I can get used to coffee or beer to the point that I now love both, but I don't think I can waste hours and hours of my life watching a crap show hoping I start to like it.

Owen is definitely one of my favorite book, putting JOhn Irvingin a high place of distinction as one of my favorite writers. I think if Tom Robbins and John Irving had a baby, it would be me :P

I can't believe how much Futurama seems to suck. It's like I can't even watch it long enough to try and enjoy it.

Somehow, with all my moving around as a kid, I managed to somehow skip LotF as required reading :P

I absolutely adored Owen... the part that really got me choked up was the two pages that ended the finger chapter. I was sitting in my car in Grand Teton NP waiting for the pouring rain to stop and when I finished that chapter I had to stop and regroup. Such a great book.

Man, I lost it so many times reading that book. I think the worst was the end, I couldn't hold back any more. I cried when the crowd started chanting "Owen Meany!" at graduation, at the nativity play, so many times. Books have gotten me to cry several times, but never the same book more than once.

I never played the first one :P Check your journal a lot, it keeps you on track with your missions. I find if I complete missions straight off, it feels much more linear. I kind of like that it's not totally linear though; it's much more like a real RPG that way.

It was pretty good, especially the last 1/8 of the book or so. I almost feel like this book was just set up for the next one, so I have a feeling Clash of Kings is going to be badass.
