Friends!

After a week without internet due to a fiscal fubar, I have returned! It continually amazes me how much I miss the internet when it is gone, how much of my mental processing is attached to that series of tubes. Something happens during the day, I store it away to research later. I hear breaking news, I want to share it. I take an awesome picture, I want to show it. Nope!

I've read a lot of scifi stories about the human brain connected to computers and networks and processors and in almost every one of them, the humans turn into drooling zombies when they have to go back to solely using their biological intelligence. I was always skeptical of such descriptions, but being away from the internet for a week has changed my mind.

So beware, because I have a week's worth of news and photos to get you caught up on.

I never, ever want to go anywhere where I can't get online again, ever. Driving through rural Nebraska and discovering my cell's advanced features didn't work was traumatizing enough.

I would be first in line to plug my brain into a computer.

I prefer the idea of plugging a computer into my brain. A fine distinction maybe, but an important one.

Not having internet drives me bonkers. Thank goodness you've come back from the dead.

Is fubar a Bluebeard reference?

Nah, fubar is a widespread word coined around WWII.

The Oxford English Dictionary lists Yank, the Army Weekly magazine (1944, 7 Jan. p. 8) as its earliest citation: "The FUBAR Squadron...FUBAR? It means 'Fruited Up Beyond All Recognition.'"

In the 1944 U.S. Army animated short The Three Brothers a character named Fubar is a brother of Private Snafu (Situation Normal, All Fucked Up)[ and Tarfu (Things Are Really Fucked Up, or Totally and Royally Fucked Up).
