I went to Concert on the Square with Jacquelyn and [personal profile] brdgt.  We met up with [profile] mystickeeper and her boyfriend and a bunch of other people like Jacqui's friend Julia, whose name I will remember (usually I don't) and a bunch of mystickeeper's work friends.   It was a Gershwin night and Rhapsody in Blue was the highlight.  I drank much too much wine and ate triple-creme brie.  It was a great time.  Of course, I am drunk, but hey, that's okay.

My sunburn is peeling, which is gross to most people, but kind of cool for me.

I scheduled my surgery.  I have to be in Utah on July 20th for my surgery prep.  I'm, afraid, but in the way a prisoner is afraid of the end of his sentence.  After seven years of fear, I find I am almost more afraid of freedom.  Granted, in order to get out of my particular prison, I have to subject myself to open heart surgery.  Literally.

*hugs* saying you'll be alright seems trite and inadequate...I feel like I should somehow say something reassuring, though I don't know why, since we don't know each other, but it seems to have me stumped nonetheless. So I suppose I'll just leave my rambling as is...

eep!

*is scared for you*

its good that you are finally getting it taken care of. I know what you mean about being scared of being free. Its a form of Stockholm's syndrome, and I have felt it before.

*hugs and prayers for you*

I still really hate the idea of your going down there alone. Why can't it be somewhere with people we know, like LA or Boston? That is going to be a really intense week, I already know it. Hm...bright side: I'll get a lot of work done! Eh...

Healthy, successful surgery mojo to you!!!

Find out everything that you need to know about the recovery process. How long will you be in the hospital?

Thanks!

Apparently I have to be in the hospital for two weeks and then I have 6 weeks after that or no lifting or running or biking.

Luckily, it seems that you'll be in excellent care. When you have a surgeon who basically has a "specialty" procedure, he does it so routinely that he knows it like the back of his hand.

If you can have your laptop in hospital I'll send you jokes and stories, or funny pictures, etc... knowing you, you'll get restless there right away and be roaming the building causing mischief if you're not properly entertained. ; )

Actually, this procedure is very rare because my particular issue is very rare, like less than 1 in 20 million. My doctor is the son of the man who invented the procedure and basically the only guy in the country that does it. My local vascular doctor said he could technically do it, but figured why not have the inventor do it :)

I'm really hoping that the hospital has wireless so I can keep up/in touch. I can't image going two weeks without LJ, (which is a sign of addiction and I should get help ;)

I missed that somehow!

Surgery is scary. Especially heart surgery. When MacMan had his heart attack... Well, I felt like a wimp for having been scared of my tonsilectomy and septoplasty.

But after witnessing the amazing job they did with him, I feel sure you'll be just fine, after the fear and owee.

Good for you for getting it taken care of. Most people don't get past THAT part of the fear.

I can't wait to get this taken care of. I just wish I didn't have to go to Salt Lake to get this done. It seems like it would be easier (for me at least) if the doctor came up here to do the surgery and let me do my recovery in Madison. Oh well.

If I lived in England, I'd still have to go to Salt Lake for this surgery. My doctor there is the only guy performing this surgery anywhere because his dad invented it :P

That is scary. The waiting is always the worst.

My husband has a heart condition caused by the Navy not treating a complex case of pneumonia. It almost killed him twice back in 2004. Sometimes the chest pain haunts him, and no one can figure out why the pain exists. I wish there were a surgery or something that could be done to fix it. The unknown is horrible.

Y'know, I was so busy blabbing out of my own experience and fears that I didn't say a single encouraging thing. My apologies.

I hope that your open heart surgery goes well and that you recover quickly.

My problem is a huge unknown (or at least has been) since no one knows what causes it. 1 in 20 million people have random balls of scar tissue in their chests. I'm glad some doctor out in Utah developed a bypass for it. Statistics are good though.

That's terrible about your husband. It's not terribly debilitating is it?

When I first moved in here, I didn't have a wireless router for my computer so I had to stretch a cord across the house, so I had to have my tower where the cord would reach. After I got wireless, I just never moved it. I suppose I could now. Hmmm....

Thanks!

That looks a lot like my old desk! Emphasis on 'old' because if I kept my current desk that way, Jessica would probably lock me -- and the desk -- out of the house. ;)

Best of luck with everything regarding the surgery. It sucks to have to face something this serious this early in life, but on the upside you couldn't be more healthy and prepared for it than you are now in your 20s. You've got the right state of mind too -- just stay focused on the aftermath because by the end of next month you'll be in better shape than you've been in upwards of a decade.

My desk is usually much cleaner, or rather it goes in cycles from clean to messy. It's just inside the door, so everyone uses it for the arrival/departure staging area :P

I had the actual clot which led to the discovery of the fibrosis back in 2001, almost exactly 7 years ago. I was 23. Now, I am 30 and will turn 31 just before my surgery. This has been a strange 7 years.
