I overhead the most subtly funny sentence today.  "I had this World History class that was only one semester."  I laughed and laughed.

Apparently my first major assignment for English is going to be a personal essay.  After doing a lot of free-writes and memory-drudging, I've decided to do a piece on my near-death experiences, my unknown divine purpose, and my lifelong sexy tango with hubris.  It should be good if I can pull it together and wax philosophical about my life.  It will be a chore to allow both my humility and arrogance shine through.  Actually, it's more arrogance I think, unfortunately.  Maybe it's faith, which may explain why it's so infuriating.

Today's screening in film class is The Wizard of Oz.  Jacquelyn and I share the same first experience with this movie.  When I was in second grade, I only had a black and white television and it is on this colorless movin' picture box that I first saw The Wizard of Oz.  About a year later I watched it again, this time on the brand-spankin' new color set we got over Christmas.  The beginning, of course was still in black and white.  However, when Dorothy stepped out of the house post-tornado and Oz was in COLORHOLY FUCKING HELL WHAT IN GOD'S GOOD NAME IS GOING ON?!  It completely blew my mind.  I can't even begin to describe.  Actually I hate that phrase.  Yes I can begin to describe it, and I am, even if to say it was indescribable.  It was an out-of-body experience.  It was a dose of some crazy psychedelic.  It was finding a whale in your kitchen sink.  Jacquelyn had about the same experience with a similar reaction.

How many of you, my dear readers, are on Facebook and love Scrabble?  I definitely need a few more people to play Scrabulous with over there.  Friend me and start a game, if you're interested.  I'm getting better, but Jacquelyn still beats me to death with a sock full of oranges on a regular basis.  (Though, I can beat her at chess, but we never seem to play that.)  So, come on peeps, help me develop some mad skillz!

I love playing scrabulous there but it's not my special skill and I don't have as much time as I'd like to dedicate to it. :( But let's play!

I, too, need more Scrabulous buddies.

Jacquelyn is a formidable opponent! She just hauled out a two-letter, 37-point move on me!

I haven't added it yet, but I hear from quite a few people that it's fun. I've been addicted to giving some of my friends Superlatives, so I can only imagine how an actual game will fare with my attention. :)

We don't know each other very well yet, but I might end up adding it, so here's (http://dickinson.facebook.com/profile.php?id=17301418) my profile link.

That story made me laugh out loud, and then I had to read it to Nora to explain what was funny.

I love Scrabble a lot ... but I don't have a facebook account and have never been compelled to get one. I wonder could I get one and only use it for that? Off to investimagate.

Oh, and speaking of word fun. My friend directed me to this addictive little site: http://freerice.com/ ... it's a good cause, and may also help with the aforementioned skillz. :)

A-hem. We don't have a chess board! We do, on the other hand, have four different Scrabble boards.

Here (http://apps.facebook.com/chessfb/)'s your chess board.

And here (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=675176320)'s me, should you wish to play (though not Scrabulous -- can't stand that game, sorry).

Many years ago I watched the Wizard of Oz while listening to Dark Side of the Moon, like they say you should. That segment that you mentioned, when Dorothy steps out of the house and into Oz is right when the song "Money" by Pink Floyd begins. It added a surreal element to the movie for sure. Suddenly everything is ultracolour and sparkling with riches and Roger Waters begins to sing about buying football teams and leer jets as Dorothy walks around in awe. The days of listening to Pink Floyd while taking halucinogens are far behind me, but that is one of my favourite memories.

Oddly, I never tried to do the whole Pink Floyd/Oz thing. Probably because I was never much of a Floyd fan :P Betraying my psychedelic heritage, I know :(

That would have been awesome to have seen Wizard of Oz like that as a child. That's a golden example of how being a disadvantage can sometimes turn out to be very rewarding later on.

And while I do like me some Scrabble, I don't have a Facebook (nor did I know that you can play games on there!) In fact, I don't really even have a Myspace anymore.

I keep my MySpace up, but never really use it. It's sort of my bookmark on the internet, to make me easy to find :P
