I overhead the most subtly funny sentence today. "I had this World History class that was only one semester." I laughed and laughed.
Apparently my first major assignment for English is going to be a personal essay. After doing a lot of free-writes and memory-drudging, I've decided to do a piece on my near-death experiences, my unknown divine purpose, and my lifelong sexy tango with hubris. It should be good if I can pull it together and wax philosophical about my life. It will be a chore to allow both my humility and arrogance shine through. Actually, it's more arrogance I think, unfortunately. Maybe it's faith, which may explain why it's so infuriating.
Today's screening in film class is The Wizard of Oz. Jacquelyn and I share the same first experience with this movie. When I was in second grade, I only had a black and white television and it is on this colorless movin' picture box that I first saw The Wizard of Oz. About a year later I watched it again, this time on the brand-spankin' new color set we got over Christmas. The beginning, of course was still in black and white. However, when Dorothy stepped out of the house post-tornado and Oz was in COLOR. HOLY FUCKING HELL WHAT IN GOD'S GOOD NAME IS GOING ON?! It completely blew my mind. I can't even begin to describe. Actually I hate that phrase. Yes I can begin to describe it, and I am, even if to say it was indescribable. It was an out-of-body experience. It was a dose of some crazy psychedelic. It was finding a whale in your kitchen sink. Jacquelyn had about the same experience with a similar reaction.
How many of you, my dear readers, are on Facebook and love Scrabble? I definitely need a few more people to play Scrabulous with over there. Friend me and start a game, if you're interested. I'm getting better, but Jacquelyn still beats me to death with a sock full of oranges on a regular basis. (Though, I can beat her at chess, but we never seem to play that.) So, come on peeps, help me develop some mad skillz!
