"Either he had seen God too soon or he had seen him too late.  In any case, it had done him no good at all in terms of survival.  Encountering the living God had not helped to equip him for tasks of ordinary endurance, which ordinary men, not so favored, handle."

~Philip K. Dick, VALIS

It's one of my all-time favorites. I just read Dick's The Man in the High Castle and was feeling nostalgic for more Phil :)

Philip K. Dick is my primary reason for getting my shit together and beginning to read again. I've read so little of his material, but I love what I've read and have seen some mind-blowing blurbs about stuff that's still on my list.

Plus this reminds me I need to check out that live-action-animation version of A Scanner Darkly. Have you seen it by chance?

I use it when I talk about how the universe is structured :)

Hence the radness. :)

Seriously though, I love the topic and I don't know anyone else who does. I was trying to explain the Sloan Great Wall to [livejournal.com profile] lagizma the other day and she was kind of like "uh, okay." I.e. I was too nerdy about space even for the girl who works for NASA. Heh.

Of course, I 97% of the time mean metaphysically, or spiritually structured, not necessarily physically structured, though there's a lot of bleed where quantum physics comes into play :)

I haven't seen it. I think I'd rather read it first. VALIS was the first PKD book I read and it blew me away on so many levels. I highly suggest it. MOst of his stuff is really good; some can argue that his writing style is a little bland at times, but his character development and ideas more than make up for it.
