The rave culture here was great through most of the 90's then in late 97, early 98, started to go downhill very badly - beatings, gangstas, bunk drugs, robberies, shady promoters, bad parties, etc.. so I took a hiatus through most of 98 and tried again in 99 and it had been reborn, it was great for another two years or so, and then went down hill again and so in 2002, I noticed I'd stopped making the effort to go and just "retired."
I've never wanted to be one of those, but I'm at the point where I catch myself wanting to say, "Oh kids these days!" while shaking my fist :P
