jackshoegazer: (TV/Kill/It)
I ate Taco Bell for lunch for the first time in, well, a long time and ohmygod, my bowels are unhappy. So much so that I'm missing work today. I hoped a nice night of sleep would help, but no. Maybe if I'd slept well, maybe. But once again, I was awoken by my neighbor in the middle of the night. I've never really had bad neighbor problems in all my adult years, but now? One of my neighbors is a goddamned nightmare. I live on the lower floor in the front of an eight-plex. He lives in the back on the second floor. From here on, I will refer to him as Asshole.

Last night, I heard metal banging around toward the back of the house. Under normal circumstance, one might be worried about, I don't know, car thieves? Burglars? Not me! My first thought was "What the fuck is Asshole doing now?" So I threw on some clothes (at 3:40am) and went outside and Asshole had a ladder going to his 2nd floor window and as I come around the corner, he's in the process of putting the screen back in. So yes, he climbed a ladder to break into his own apartment.

On Saturday afternoon, my nap was interrupted by his screaming "GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY HOUSE!" over and over again. Asshole has at least five kids (it's hard to keep count) by at least two different women. Apparently one of them was there to pick up two of the kids and he wanted her to leave. Apparently this can't be done at a reasonable volume.

Asshole owns two vans from some defunct home remodeling company, which he crams into a single parking space on the side of the building, so that our two bedroom windows open out not onto lawn or neighboring apartments, but two ugly, rusted vans, full of junk. Lately, Asshole has taken to rummaging through his vans, anywhere from about 10pm to 2am. Bang, clank, right outside my bedroom window.

Back in January, I woke up at 3am to bad rock music blaring right outside my window. Instead of one of the vans, his car was parked outside my window and he was just sitting in the car. I dressed, went outside and knocked on his window several times until he noticed me. He rolls down the window, and says, "What?" It's like that man is completely oblivious to the fact that other people live in the building.

He will take over the backyard with camping equipment; tents, a radio, grill, camp chairs, et cetera, and he and his kids will have a camp out" which is fine by me. Sounds like a great time. Except that he exercises no restraint on his kids, so when these six-to-nine year olds are still playing basketball right outside my bedroom window, he does nothing, and just scowls at me when I ask him to keep it down and not, you know, dribble a basketball and not yell when I'm trying to sleep at 2am.

Through the grapevine, I've also heard of other encounters where one of my neighbors called the landlord about his loud camping shenanigans, and when the landlord came over to ask him to keep it down, Asshole called the police on my landlord for infringing his rights to use the backyard.

Asshole also called the police on a gentleman who came to the house to serve him some court papers. The police showed up, Asshole said guy was trespassing, and cops served Asshole the papers anyway.

One of Asshole's kids broke a neighbor's windshield while playing baseball. She couldn't get any money out of him for the repair, so she was going to sue him. Instead, they went on People's Court and he coached his kid to lie, and it was obvious, and his kid ratted him out. On camera.

This isn't even the half of it. The man is a trainwreck and he's more erratic every day. I'm going to call the landlord, or write a well documented letter, much like this post, but you know, not call him Asshole. I used to feel sorry for the guy, thinking he had a tough shake, with two exes and so many kids and a failed remodeling business, but no, he's just an asshole.
