jackshoegazer: (Iconomicon/InUrLj)
My [livejournal.com profile] iconomicon, a.k.a. The All-Seeing, All-Knowing, Almighty ICONOMICON! turns three at the end of the month and just hit 4000 members.  It's crazy talk!

Yesterday I got an email from someone who is working on a centralized icon/avatar site and wants to redistribute my icons and will give me a "cut of the revenue if it gets enough traffic."

I got another email today from someone thanking me for the years of great icons, "the recent feministy ones most especially" and that she'd like to use them in a new e-zine she's launching in June.

Making pictures smaller is a weird business, my friends.
jackshoegazer: (Writing/Reading)
So, when I'm writing, I don't really read and I've been writing a lot because of my creative writing class.  Which means that since New Year's, I haven't read a thing.  I finished Hogfather which I started in December, but that's been it.  I made a failed attempt at 2666 and Everything is Illuminated but just couldn't get into them while I had my own stories swirling.

Now, however, I am finished with the short story portion of the semester (it's poetry from here on out) I have finally started a book and it's grabbed me and I'm enjoying it.  It's Dave Egger's You Shall Know Our Velocity! and damn it's pretty good so far.  All of the things I liked about AHWOSG are there and oddly, parts of it are set in places I've actually been, like Oconomowoc.  It actually works too, unlike John Irving's The Fourth Hand which is partially set in Wisconsin and it is painfully obvious Irving has never actually been here.

So, on one hand, it's nice to be able to start reading again.  On the other, I worry that my burst of good stories is over and I wonder if this is some cosmic precondition that if I am to be a writer, I can not be a simultaneous reader.  (When I wrote the novel, I quit reading for the whole sixty days.)

Whatever.  I'm going to go multiply some polynomials.
