The wee lad has lived a decade-point-five.

Ethan prepares to blow out the candles of his 15th birthday cake.

Jacquelyn made his a mochaccino cake. It was fantastic. Served with coffee ice cream.

Happy Birthday Ethan! Oh to be 15 again :) And I know it's been said, but dang that cake looks yummy. Maybe Miss Jacquelyn would like to share the recipe with those of us who are dying to try something new? Pretty please with some mocha chips on top?

I sort of wing my cake inventions. I went with a boxed chocolate cake (we were on a budget) and added instant coffee to the water, so it came out with a mocha taste. I then melted white chocolate and cream and added more instant coffee for the sauce - basically like a ganache, but with more cream so that it didn't thicken too much. I frosted with homemade whipped cream instead of frosting, and put a layer of sauce, whipped cream, and crushed chocolate covered espresso beans in between the cake layers, frosted the whole thing with whipped cream, and decorated with more crushed beans and drizzled with the sauce.

You, my dear, are awesome. And I'm not just saying that because you're sharing the secrets to yummy baked goods :) I can't wait to try this myself!

Really, the exciting part was realizing I could use instant coffee to flavor things without adding more liquid (since it's powder).

And, thanks! :)
