I just found out through Facebook that my son has his first girlfriend.

The internet rules are that I have full open security settings for his profile and know his passwords - just in case. He's said that almost all of his friends have their parents on the FBs. As he gets older and more mature, the level of transparency will lessen. Maybe I'm overprotective, but I know the shit *I* got into when his age and well...

My daughter is a few years older than Ethan, I think... and yeah, I was pretty over the shoulder when she was a bit younger. She has parents and aunts and uncles listed on Facebook - and I try not to be too obnoxious about the things I see posted. It's a funny, and highly idiosyncratic line you end up walking - I'm far more likely to call her out on racist wall chatter than I am on weekend partying photo.

That's a good line to walk :) We do have to let them make some of their own mistakes, unfortunately :P
