Hang on, I'll feed you, baby birds.

First off, sixty-five Nobel Prize Winners have endorsed Obama in an Open Letter to the American People. Of course, you know those Nobel people are a bunch of lousy no-goodnicks.

On Tuesday, the Anchorage Daily News also printed a blistering editorial on Palin, calling her response to the State Legislature's Troopergate report "Orwellian."   She claims the report vindicates her when in fact it says on page eight, "I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act."  She broke the state ethics law, pure and simple.

Also: McCain Transition Chief Aided Saddam Hussein In Lobbying Effort:
William Timmons, the Washington lobbyist who John McCain has named to head his presidential transition team, aided an influence effort on behalf of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to ease international sanctions against his regime.
and Rick Davis, McCain's Campaign Manager, Made Nearly $2 Million To Defend Mortgage Giants From Stricter Regulations:
Senator John McCain's campaign manager was paid more than $30,000 a month for five years as president of an advocacy group set up by the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to defend them against stricter regulations, current and former officials say.
Not to mention that John McCain told USA TODAY that he "has no problem with his top foreign policy adviser Randy Scheunemann's past lobbying work. The fighting between Russia and Georgia has brought renewed attention to Scheunemann and the lobbying firm he founded, Orion Strategies, which received more than $730,000 from Georgia since 2001."

Can he have any more lobbyists on his team?

Obama has opened up a 14-point lead in a CBS/NYT survey.  Don't get over-confident my friends, there's still 20 days left and who knows what ugliness lies on the last page of McCain's scorched-earth campaign book.  However, conservatives are blaming McCain for the possible Obama landslide.

Also: The Scholastic Presidential Election Poll results are in and Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama won with 57 percent of the vote, to 39 percent for Republican nominee Senator John McCain.

"Since 1940, the results of the student vote have mirrored the outcome of the general election all but twice: In 1948, kids voted for Thomas E. Dewey over Harry S. Truman. In 1960, more students voted for Richard M. Nixon than for John F. Kennedy. In 2000, a majority of student voters chose George W. Bush, mirroring the Electoral College result, but not the result of the popular vote. "

Don't forget the last debate is tonight.  Tune in, turn on, vote!

EDIT:  I had to add one more link - The Daily Show on McCain's new fiery stump speech.  Awesomely hilarious.

I want McCain to go crazy in the debate. Do you know the theme tonight? Not that it'll matter... it'll end up eing economic choices like the last debate.

Bob Schieffer who's moderating has said he's going to make them stick to answering the questions and try to get them off stump-material, to get more specific. I think the theme is pretty open, so this should be interesting, especially since Obama seems to be baiting McCain (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/10/14/MNTT13H4GU.DTL) into bringing up the Ayers/terrorist stuff up in the final debate.

She claims the report vindicates her when in fact it says on page eight ... She broke the state ethics law, pure and simple.

Ah, well, it was only to be expected that she didn't have time to read it closely enough... what with her keeping abreast of the news by reading "everything" and all that..... :D

I thought the debate tonight was especially good. Obama was on point and stayed positive, just went over his policies more. McCain was all up on the personal attacks, not answering things directly. He seemed a man out of ideas.

So that's heartening.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, polls are showing Obama won - that means the Dems won all four debates. Independents even thought Obama won 60-30. 19 days left and we have to hold it together. I'm curious what McCain is going to try next. Maybe drag Wright back out? Keep pounding away at the Ayers thing? This negativity isn't working - he's got to know that. Even his new economic plan fell flat. Maybe he'll expose himself to radiation and get superpowers? I think that's his only hope.

Wait - McCain is going to steal a jet, fly to the border of Afghanistan/Pakistan, and single-handedly capture Osama Bin Laden!

Props on the Daniel Tosh reference, btw.

I think at this point he's out of ideas. Really. I'm actually writing a thing for my LJ now about our business and why we support Obama as a small business.

Have you seen Obama's tax plan? It would be awesome. If we hired ten people we would get a $30,000 tax credit. I forget what the numbers are for one employee, but it's still significant.

That kind of thing gives small companies like ours a lot more freedom to hire the help we desperately need.

The only real idea I hear from McCain is lowering the capital gains tax. Which is only on selling things over $5,000. While that would be nice if I had to sell my car most people I know who are struggling don't have a ton of >$5,000 assets lying around waiting to be pawned if they're in trouble.

I think it's funny they're trying so hard with the smear tactics. It's turning a lot of people off and most people are freaked out enough about the economy that they don't have patience for irrelevant personal attacks. I think Obama did a great job last night of saying that it's not about who hurts whose feelings, it's about who has the right ideas to move the country in the proper direction for the future.

If McCain did that I still wouldn't vote for him, but I would certainly have to give him some mad props.

Started with props and ended with props. This comment came full circle.

What's scary is that McCain circa 2000 was much better and seemed a decent guy. We know from his extensive history he was still a bit of a douche, but he was decent. Then he got trounced by the Republican machine he fought against, and in the following years, became one of them and now, they're running his campaign.

I love it that this election is about issues. Though, after last night, and really the whole election, I think a lot of people, even if they don't 100% agree with Obama are choosing a president that is intelligent, poised and, God-forbid, PRESIDENTIAL.

At the beginning of the election season John didn't scare me nearly as much. He was imperfect but he didn't yet strike me as a morally bankrupt sellout who had no idea what he was doing. I think he's gotten so mentally screwed up by his life that he's beyond illogical at this point.

But yes, I love that this is finally about issues. People are actually attempting to make choices based on things that matter, at least for the most part. This is good.

Did you catch this? Image
