Light is a metaphor for many things.

It's that time of year when we start to get direct sunlight into the living room in the early morning hours.  On Thanksgiving Day, I took a few pictures of the light streaming in.  For such a cold day, it was warm and relaxing.

I do love the quality and texture of light in autumn.

I spent most of yesterday in a huge cathedral, and the light coming through the stained-glass windows was magnificent. Here's a picture:

It was beautiful. I'm not Catholic (I was there to take photos of a client) but it was some of the most beautiful architecture I've ever seen.

That's pretty beautiful.

I remember a friend's wedding I went to; with the light coming in through the stained glass, it was absorbed by the polished hardwood floors, to the point where the floors seemed to glow with their own light.

I love love love cathedrals. They are so beautiful, especially in the sunlight. My favourite is Sainte Chapelle in Paris. When the sun comes through there, it is pure magic.

Lovely room.

Thanks. It's slowly coming together, piece by piece.

I love how Figaro looms over everything.

Oddly, he only recently started using the cat tree. Before (and still) he makes us put him on top of my tall bookshelf :P

my favorite part is the cat on the cat tower. it completely makes the pictures awesome

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It had better for what we paid for it :) We're just glad the cats use it. That was our biggest worry, that they'd just ignore it, like every other cat-toyish thing we've ever gotten them :P

[identity profile] 3starsinmyeyes.livejournal.com 2007-11-27 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
haha my cats would do that on purpose, they would come in, sniff it and look at you like "what the fuck is this supposed to be?" and walk away and nest in the plastic grocery bags we get for free.... evil cats

[identity profile] irishspongie.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
The cat tree is nice :)

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
We love it and thankfully, so do the kitties. We were very worried that they'd ignore it and that would be a $235 (113.613 GBP @ current exchange rate) waste of money.

Your house looks so warm and comfy.
I really like it. :)

Thankyou!

love the vintage posters and your big comfy-looking couch!

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
As do we :) The couch is IKEA, an Ektorp sectional. It pretty much rules.

you have a really kickass apartment. and not a dirty dish in sight.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
We had just cleaned. All the dirt dishes were in the kitchen :)

My mother loves Steinlen prints. I dig your living room.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I've had that print on and off for years and years. I love it mucho.

Thank you :)

We have that coffee table!!

Great room. Avoids making the tv the focus, while still making it easy to see from the couch - always a challenge. Space for kitties to bask in the sun (we looked at cat furniture this weekend, gawd it's pricey.) Books, candles, color, squishy couch, happy cats. SUCCESS!

[identity profile] antarcticlust.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Not having the TV the focus of the room is very important to me, too - I'd rather have it in a hutch with closed doors, even! The fireplace is great that way - especially when we use it. :)

That is presicsely what we have! The room layout is weird, so our choices were limited... Someday I'll post a pic :)

WHERE did you get that cat tree? It's wonderful! (Beg pardon if you posted about it - I must have missed it.) Also: Great room!

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2007-11-27 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
We bought it from Mad Cat (http://www.felineunderground.com/) here in Madison. There are a few companies that make them like this. I love them so much. I never liked the regular ones I saw in pet stores, but these "natural" ones are amazing and our cats love it.

I see kitties!

You really do have a gorgeous living room. I love the bookshelves.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2007-11-28 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
That was definitely a selling point when we were deciding whether to take this apartment :) Built-in bookshelves + working fireplace + parquet wood floors + cheap rent = DING! DING! DING! WE HAVE A WINNER!
