Zeus and Thor are sky gods.

I was struck by lightning this morning.

Seriously.

Well, at least I think so. Let me give you the 411 (that means information) and you can decide for yourself.

I left work at 5:30 this morning to discover that it was raining. A lot. And there were massive bolts of lightning illuminating the sky. The water came down in blinding torrents, overwhelming my windshield wipers. Thunder roared overhead like a chorus of pizza and beer belches.

The following events happened in the snap of fingers, in the crack of a whip: I felt a slight warmth just as everything went white. An electric crackle and a transistor-like pop resounded loudly above my head. And then the world came back.

Was my car stuck by lightning? It wasn't just like a bright bolt near me, all around me was a single blinding strobe of light, and the thunder peal like a shattering light bulb sounded like it was mere inches from the top of my head. Does anyone know what happens to a car if it is struck? Will the electrical system be kersizzled? Do the rubber tires ground-out the vehicle?

I had better be careful; the sky gods are aiming for me.

omg.

I'm fairly sure the tires ground out the electricity. I'd call a mechanic if you're concerned.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I jut wasn't sure if the whole grounding thing was a myth or not :P

[identity profile] kiwikat.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
jeeeezuz.

i'm pretty sure the tires ground you out, but you should probably get it checked out anyway

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
I should, my car's being funny now.

[identity profile] kiwikat.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
shitty!

i know two good mechanics. there's eddy's, which is near the mini golf course on whitney way, and broadway tire like a mile from my house on broadway. i think you already know good mechanics though, in which case ignore that. but those guys are good.

you poor kid

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know good mechanics :( And I also don't have any money. But it's not a big deal, as described in a subsequent post, just annoying.

[identity profile] kiwikat.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
: (

[identity profile] kiwikat.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
is subsequent the right word there? i can't decide

my tummy hurts.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's totaly wrong! Previous! Previous!

[identity profile] kiwikat.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
ok. thought maybe it was just me. it's that kind of morning.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto. I just woke up, I have an excuse!

[identity profile] lady-saffir.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, from what I have hear the car is one of the safest places to be during lightning for just that reason, rubber tires. But if you are worried about the car having it checked out couldn't hurt.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
There's now an occasional crackle and some lights on my dash come on :(

[identity profile] maeghanne.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
stay indoors..

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
You know me and my opinion of storms :)

[identity profile] maeghanne.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I do.. but if you are dead your opinion is much less valid!

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Lots of people die enjoying what they love. Does that make their enjoyment any less valid? What about all the people who have heart attacks while fucking? Should they have never fucked? ;)

[identity profile] maeghanne.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I see... now we are getting into this age old debtate. Actually, I am of the belief that I should live my life doing what makes it fulfilling to me and not cowering at the thought of loosing it. That would make my life meaningless... but everyone else on the planet is actually here to serve me. (did you not get the memo) You are of no use to me dead! :)

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, no I didn't get that memo. Well shhhhiet!

[identity profile] maeghanne.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHA!

[identity profile] kiwikat.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
i disagree. people still take the opinions of many of the dead very very seriously. philosophers, politicians, john lennon.....

[identity profile] maeghanne.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah.. I knew someone was going to point that out... :)

[identity profile] kiwikat.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
: ' ( i'm so predictable.

[identity profile] maeghanne.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
no, no. I just have faulty logic...

[identity profile] kiwikat.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
okay!

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Logic is only good for math and map reading anyway :P

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Good point! And it's even worse because dead people can't later say, "Oh, nevermind that, I was SO full of shit before!"

[identity profile] kiwikat.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
ya, liek srsly

[identity profile] sacredchao23.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep tires ground it out.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That's good to know. You're sure that's not one of those unconfirmed urban myths?

energy must still go somewhere

[identity profile] anarch-king.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
primarly conductive electrical systems.
such things as controlling timing are effected among other things.

[identity profile] gamine3.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
wow. sure sounds like it. i wonder if you have magic powers now...and if you do, what they may be. Try moving things with just your brain. Try to levitate the cat.

[identity profile] ceolnamara.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
maybe not the cat, aye? if he messes up it might claw his eyeballs. that woudld be inconvenient.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there's nothing more pathetic than a blind superhero. Look at Daredevil; they made his movei with Ben Affleck.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm.. no levitation :( Maybe I have special toothache powers!

[identity profile] antarcticlust.livejournal.com 2005-09-19 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
A friend of mine had a car struck by lightening and the car was fine- the rubber tires and all that. Still, that's pretty damned cool. Maybe they aren't aiming- maybe they gave you a present.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, it's about time they started sending me offerings :)

[identity profile] antarcticlust.livejournal.com 2005-09-20 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that's bordline hubris, my boy. ;)

funny coincedence?

Damn.

Rubber Tires do ground out a vehicle.

You were given a gift...how did it feel to be in the center of the flow?

That feeling was the gift.

See it how you wish, but you were blessed...even if the car ends up with problems(and it most likely will - get yer electrical system checked asap b4 it does happen)
