Oh, Wednesday, how do I love thee...

My ideas for the novel are solidifying somewhat.  If I can pull it off.  One of my favorite writers once said that a writer should always be trying to write something they aren't sure they have the ability to write.  I see it as a sort of extension of that shoot-for-the-stars, only by reaching for unattainable do we find greatness deal.  I do at least have a working title and on the NaNoWriMo site, they ask for a book cover for the novel info, so I made this, which took about ten minutes.  I am going to try and get some more actual writing done today but other things keep stepping in the way.

For instance, I spent most of my morning so far planning my spring class schedule.  As it stands, it looks like I will be taking Intermediate Algebra, Creative Writing, East-West Worldview, and Social Problems.  Oh, and probably an 8:30am yoga class.  I can't register for the classes until 4pm so I have a little while to mull it over.  If I take all of those, that's 14 credits.  Eeek.

Also, I am going to THORPS to get my hair cut.  It has been forever.  My cutter, Stephen, opened his own shop and between the transition and money woes, I just haven't been able to get trimmed.  Which means I've been wearing lots of hats.

Add to this a trip to the grocery store, laundry, and studying for two tests, one in Abormal Psychology (anxiety & mood disorders, depression & suicide) and one in Classical Mythology (all the hero tales, Hercules, Perseus, Theseus, Jason, Oedipus, Troy, etc...), I've got quite the day ahead of me, considering it's my day off.

P.S.  I also made this awesome boxing Sherlock Holmes icon.

Great book cover!

I "joke" (in scare quotes, cuz it's true!) that I already have my epilogue for my dissertation written - it's that dissertation part that is coming along slower.

Hmm.. Greek heroes and mood disorders in the same week? Curious coincidence.

Oedipus: Keep it in the family.

OMFG I love Sherlock Holmes. Can I snag that icon? And give you credit, of course.

I like your book cover. Have you thought about what will make Jack an esoteric investigator in the context of your plot?

[identity profile] antarcticlust.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
He made this originally at my request - you might like the version with text better. :)

Excellent! Thanks.

Ah, now I know why the esoteric cult, heh. Sadly, I have no title yet. No wonder, since the novel was so crappy, I guess it was simply refusing to be named. Hopefully I'll come up with something soon and then can bribe someone to do my cover.

Nice cover! And hooray math! That sounds like an awesome schedule.

I absolutely love your cover art.

Sometimes, I pick up books to read based on the cover alone. I would pick that one up in a heartbeat. :D

like the cover, kinda love the icon (i can hear "one two, watson, one two!"), am nervous for your heavy spring schedule (but ooh! social problems!), and have a favor to ask. a friend just translated 'yes we can' into latin for me, and i'd love an icon from you with those words: vero nos possumus. if you have any time in the nearish future and any inclination at all, i'd adore it.
muchas gracias or, as we say in le monde de la_tante, merci beaucoup!

You mean something like this:

That Holmes icon was something I made for fun when I was making this icon, which is an actual Holmes quote:

Enjoy!

I do the same thing. It's a graphic artist thing, myself :)

Thanks!

Thanks :)

If you ever want some art for your projects done, let me know, even if it's a just-for-fun cover.

no ruffian, you!

It's probably similarly scary to write a book as it is to paint a scary new painting I'm not sure I can handle. Here's to fighting the fear!

Yay for taking yoga at college, that would be a nice side benefit. Algebra is no fun, but the rest sounds good.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks :D

I used to be great at algebra, but I haven't done any in like 10 years, so my algebraic brain is a bit rusty.

I think I'm dropping Social Problems in favor of Microeconomics.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, writing a novel is like wrestling a bear that has sea serpents for arms and a t-rex for a head with fire and lightning shooting out of its arse.

I'm debating dropping yoga in favor of more sleep.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Once you know what the novel is about, the name will seem simple.

Like right now, you could name it:

BORE: A True Story of Boring People Doing Boring Things?

[identity profile] kiwikat.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as you fight the fear.

A bear's scary parts are all on its' arms and head. Without those a bear is just big and furry. So the bear part of your monster is pretty beatable.

Plus if you wrestle him someplace cold his head and sea serpent arms and probably cold-blooded and will get lethargic. AND! You've been hit by lightning before and lived to tell the tale. Lightning cannot defeat you!

I really think you can do this.

Sleep is good, but yoga would probably help you to gently rebuild your chest and such. Speaking of which, are you still feeling kind of weird and swelly like you mentioned the other day?

[identity profile] atomic-goo.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Algebra is fun. :D I have full faith you'll be running at full algebraic capacity in no time!

I'm taking microeconomics now and am really enjoying it! Even though my class has 500 people in it, haha.

[identity profile] jackshoegazer.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That's one of the reasons I'm at the school I am for my intro classes - I didn't want to deal with 500 person lectures :P But then, I suppose there may be something comforting in that kind of anonymity.

[identity profile] celestialgldfsh.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
That is very tempting. I may need to get back to you on that.
