Son of a bitch.
Is it really possible to viscerally hate someone you've barely exchanged four words with? This will be a vitriolic rant; be warned.
I fucking hate, I mean HATE this guy in my English class. He never pays attention to what's going on in class, constantly wears earbuds and holds up the class when he's called on since the teacher has to reexplain everything to him. The first day of class he called himself an "artist" and yet from what he's shared in class, is a complete shit writer. He's the guy who is doing the large peace signs and "STOP ALL WAR" scrawls in chalk on the buildings downtown near campus. He goes on rants about how he hates Hillary Clinton, even going to a talk Chelsea did, heckling her and holding up a sign saying, "HILLARY IS PRO-WAR." When Mike Huckabee was in town, his campaign bus right across the street from my school, he ran outside and started screaming about Huckabee being a racist and a fascist and a couple dozen other words I'm sure he only vaguely knows the definitions of. When he ran out of vague pejoratives, he started going on about how Huckabee is at least better than John McCain. Today in class, same as usual, not paying attention, et cetera, general annoyances, but then someone asked about where to vote in today's primary and he starts going off about how he went to the polls and got a ballot then tore it up in front of the poll workers and threw it away and then started bleating, "Baraaaaaaack Obaaaaaaama." The guy is a fucking moron, thinking he's so nonconformist and independent a thinker and is one of those people who will accuse anyone with an opinion nearing popular thought to be uneducated and brainwashed, yet his own beliefs are such obvious repetitive talking points and prejudices. Everything about him makes me want to punch him in the face. After his Obama bleating, I said "What a fucking moron." to myself and I think a few people heard me since a couple turned and smiled. I am going to have a very difficult time being objective when we start workshopping our writing.

I had a friend in college who was JUST LIKE THIS. I didn't fully realize it though until we got an apartment together and I got stuck in the lease with him for over a year. He thought he was going to be the next George Lucas and went around calling himself a "total pinko liberal commie" (as if that was something to be proud of) and driving around with a "Labotomies for Republicans Now!" bumper sticker, but in reality he was just a Star Wars dork whose understanding of liberal politics was almost as bas as his understanding of conservative politics. The crazy part is that he did the SAME THING to Bob Dole back in 1996 that the douche in your class did to Huckabee. He and another crazy friend of his put on women's lingerie and feather boas over their street clothes and went and shouted stuff at Dole from behind the police line. They weren't crossdressers or anything, they just thought that Dole was so prejudice and unstable that seeing them dressed like that would freak him out and cause him to embarrass himself in public and loose the election. Yeeeeah.
I'd love to have a chat with this guy. I'd scare the shit out of him. I've run the gamut from being a hardcore, Reagan-loving, Clinton-hating, Young Republican that fantasized about PETA members being mauled by animals.. to being a deadly serious, rabidly Bush-despising, quasi-bohemian militant who was totally prepared to shoot-to-kill at cops if they should try to invade the privacy of my home again.. to where I'm at now at (I hope) a reasonable, normal human in between point. Nobody was as sociopolitically crazy as I was and the only to be gained from that is the realization that "oh, extremes and fanaticism are bad." In this age of religious extremism, you think this guy would have gotten a clue by now.
Anyway, sorry about the length of this comment, but I just want to make it abundantly clear how right you are about this guy being a complete fucking moron.

I'm glad you've found your balance. Though, God hates the lukewarm. Or so I hear. I bet that's kind of bullshit, actually.
My main beef with this guy is that 1) he's obviously not educated on "reality" especially political reality and 2) getting in these people's faces and offending them is NOT going to change their minds. Only time and thoughtful, convincing arguments are going to do that.
