What is a holiday without a scene of a family running to the terminal at the airport?

After a "breakfast" of hotel bagels, we went to the airport where everything looked to be on time. We had a great time, playing games and taking pictures of Detroit's civilized airport.

Then our flight got canceled. Everything in New England was getting canceled. We were finally able to rebook a flight going to Boston at 7:30pm - six hours after our canceled flight to Burlington should have left. We ran back and forth all day for hours and hours from gate to gate trying to get a stand-by flight. No such luck. We spoke to dozens of Northwest employees, none of which were able to give the same answer. I realize it's been hell for holiday travelers, but the customer service was garbage. People were either badly misinformed or stupid or liars.

Eventually, once we were denied our last stand-by and Boston looked like it was going to get canceled, Jacquelyn's mom booked us a flight on Southwest. We had to leave the terminal, take a shuttle to a completely different terminal, go through security again, fly from Detroit to Baltimore, then from Baltimore to Manchester. The roads in Vermont are closed (five feet of snow, we hear) so we're at a Hilton Homewood Suites, which is an amazing upgrade from our total shite hotel of last night. Sometime tomorrow we'll attempt the final trek to Vermont.

Northwest are a bunch of bastards. As soon as we switched to Southwest, everyone was knowledgeable and friendly.  Everything went smooth.

I never thought I'd be one of those frazzled, grouchy, stranded holiday travelers, but here I am.
