Some of you expressed interest in reading this paper when it was finished, so I'm going to post it, locked of course.  It's not as good as I imagined, but then, I had to keep it around five pages, so I couldn't be as grand and all-encompassing as I had wanted.  Enjoy a peek into my brain.

These are my favorite excerpts...

Two days ago, I listened to a 9-6-08 message by Bree Keyton, a young woman evangelist who had just traveled to Kenya and visited Obama's home village and what she found out about his relations with his tribal people was chilling. And his "cousin" Odinga was dreadful. She said the witches, warlocks and those involved in satanism and the occult get up daily at 3 a.m. to release curses against McCain and Palin so B. Hussein Obama is elected.

She said the current president of Kenya is a Christian. However, Obama's cousin Odinga ran aganist him and said he rigged the election and stirred up the masses to rape woman and boys, kill and burn and torture Christians, etc. until Obama contacted Condeleeza Rice and she granted Obama the right to contact Odinga and other ruling elders and he "convinced" them to stop terrorizing the Christians. Bree Keyton said the current Christian President was forced by our government (!) to "create" an office for Odinga (to make "peace") so he was made the Prime Minister (!) to make peace between the Christians and Odinga's Muslim religion!

You can read the rest HERE.  Thank you for alerting me to this great danger, [livejournal.com profile] jrfrench ! :D

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian police are looking for two mystics who persuaded a student to part with more than $160,000 in exchange for lifting a curse, RIA news agency reported Sunday.

"Two unknown women, on the pretext of lifting a curse, stole $150,000 and some jewelry by means of deception. The total amount stolen is estimated at 4.48 million roubles ($161,800)," the agency quoted a police source as saying.

The victim is a female student at Moscow's elite State Institute for International Affairs, RIA said. Many Russians are highly superstitious. They spend huge sums each year on faith healers and alternative medicine.

My question is, what if they really removed the curse?  Is it crime merely because we live in a pseudo-scientific culture that doesn't believe in curses?  We tithe to churches for blessings and miracles from the Lord God, so why don't we arrest priests and their ilk for theft by deception?

'Gospel of Judas' gives new view of Jesus' betrayer

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Judas Iscariot, vilified as Christ's betrayer, acted at Jesus' request in turning him over to the authorities who crucified him, according to a 1,700-year-old copy of the "Gospel of Judas" unveiled on Thursday.

In an alternative view to traditional Christian teaching, the Judas gospel shows the reviled disciple as the only one in Jesus' inner circle who understood his desire to shed his earthly body.

Here is a translation in PDF format of the Gospel of Judas.

It's quite relieving to hear this coming out of Rome.
PARIS (Reuters) - The Roman Catholic Church has restated its support for evolution with an article praising a U.S. court decision that rejects the "intelligent design" theory as non-scientific.

The Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano said that teaching intelligent design -- which argues that life is so complex that it needed a supernatural creator -- alongside Darwin's theory of evolution would only cause confusion.
I'm sort of at odds with the subject. While I tend to believe in higher orders of intelligence, my beliefs run more along the line that if there *is* a higher power/intelligence/God, then evolution is *how* that entity acts upon us. I really don't see why the two sides can't get along. At one time, I said that the difference between religion and science is that science has renamed it's God "blind determinism."

An article on America's Arcane Origins...
Political activists of the so-called “religious Right” in the United States never tire of preaching that their country was founded as “a Christian democracy.” But they are wrong on both counts.

When Benjamin Franklin was leaving the first Continental Congress, he was asked by one of many anxious patriots waiting outside the courthouse, “What have you given us?” Franklin replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.”

The difference might seem trivial or even non-existent to narrow-minded persons for whom democracy and dictatorship are the only conceivable forms of government. Yet, the very word, “democracy,” does not occur once in the Bill of Rights, the US Constitution, or any state constitution. It was mentioned often by America’s Founding Fathers, but invariably as a synonym for “mob rule,” and, along with obsolescent monarchy, an evil to be avoided.

Thomas Paine, the American Revolution’s most eloquent voice, summed up his colleagues’ view of democracy when he described it in his world-famous “Rights of Man” as “a species of demagoguery, wherein clever charlatans, making promises as enticing as they are impossible to fulfil, win for themselves unwarranted power and wealth, persuading gullible people to discard their liberties for a secret tyranny masquerading as public freedom.”

It goes on from there to lay out the actual political and religious atmosphere in which this country was founded.  At times it's a bit inflamatory, referring to "bible-beating conservatives", but overall, a good article by a man with a resonable grasp of history.  Enjoy!

Albert Hofmann, who just turned 100, remembers very clearly the moment when, on a spring afternoon, riding his bicycle, the whole world - and his life - changed.

In 1938, Hofmann had synthesised the 25th chemical: lysergic acid diethylamide. It showed little effect in test animals, bar restlessness, and it was shelved.

Five years later, on a hunch - or a "peculiar presentiment", as Hofmann puts it - he brewed up a fresh batch. In the process, he was overcome by dizziness. Sent home, he "sank into a not unpleasant intoxicated-like condition, characterised by an extremely stimulated imagination".

Sandoz was keen to find a use for this new compound, and Hofmann thought it could have an important role to play in psychiatry. After animal tests showed it to be virtually non-toxic, it was made freely available to qualified clinical investigators. "Properties: causes hallucinations, depersonalisation, reliving of repressed memories and mild neurovegetative symptoms," read the label on the bottle.

Bethlehem, Roman-occupied Judea – Authorities were today alerted by a concerned citizen who noticed a family living in a barn. Upon arrival, Family Protective Services personnel, accompanied by police, took into protective care an infant child named Jesus, who had been wrapped in strips of cloth and placed in a feeding trough by his 14-year old mother, Mary of Nazareth.

The purpose of the Great Work is to follow your Path perfectly. In the movie K-PAX, Prot tells us that the Universe is continually, forever, expanding, then contracting upon itself. Every time it expands, we live the same life over again, making the same choices, the same mistakes. So we should get it right this time, because it's the only time we get. The theme is the same in Vonnegut's Timequake. In Good Omens, Adam says that maybe religions should stop telling us it all gets sorted out after we're dead so that maybe we'll start trying to sort it out when we're here.

So it's this I've been pondering all morning, my retrograde reflection. Yes, we may have life after life to get it right, but I've always felt that this is my one life and I have to get it right this time around. There are no second chances. This, I think, is why I have been so obsessive about doing what I feel I need to do and being very uncompromising in my life decisions, following the signs the Universe sends my way.

Prot tells us that our task is to be here and be prepared for anything that falls in our Path. He's right.

Graham Hancock's SUPERNATURAL touches on the story of Francis Crick, the Cambridge astrobiologist who cracked the DNA code in the 1950s. Something Hancock points out is that in 2004, following Crick's death at the age of 84, it was revealed that Crick had regularly used LSD in his younger days (then still legal in this country),and that it was whilst on a trip that the structure of the DNA molecule was revealed to him.

Here is the general description of the book. I HAVE to own this! This, if as good as it sounds, would be like the bible of my studies.
Less than 50,000 years ago mankind had no art, no religion, no sophisticated symbolism, no innovative thinking. Then, in a dramatic and electrifying change, described by scientists as ‘the greatest riddle in human history’, all the skills and qualities that we value most highly in ourselves appeared already fully formed, as though bestowed on us by hidden powers. In SUPERNATURAL Graham Hancock sets out to investigate this mysterious ‘before-and-after moment’ and to discover the truth about the influences that shaped the modern human mind.

I found this in an article by Lon Milo DuQuette, writing about the number 666 and Aleister Crowely...

One of the most astonishing roles Crowley played on the stage of world events was that of secret agent. At a moment in history when the United States was seriously considering entering World War I on Germany's side, Crowley, working undercover for British Intelligence, secured a job writing for an English-language German propaganda newspaper in New York. There he wrote a series of outrageous and insanely inflammatory editorials that hailed Kaiser Wilhelm as the new Jesus Christ, advocated unrestricted submarine warfare against all of the world's civilian shipping, and boasted that it was God's will that Germany rule the world.

These wild statements did not reflect Germany's foreign policy, but the citizens of the United States did not know that. In short order Crowley's editorials were being quoted by U.S. senators and congressmen who used them as evidence that Germany was a nation gone mad. The U.S. finally joined the conflict on England's side largely due to Crowley's ingenious disinformation campaign.

At the request of his friend, naval intelligence officer Ian Fleming (creator of James Bond 007), Crowley provided Winston Churchill with valuable insights into the superstitious mindset of the leaders of Hitler's Third Reich during the Second World War. He suggested that Churchill exploit the Nazis' magical paranoia by being photographed as much as possible giving the two-fingered "V for Victory" gesture - a powerful symbol of destruction and annihilation that, according to magical tradition, is capable of defeating the perverted solar energies represented by the Nazi swastika.

Who'd've thunk it? I knew the very basics of this, but not quite the far-reaching ramifications of it. And for those tempted to skip the whole article, you should know that:

Recently a 1,500-year-old papyrus manuscript was examined, using new technologies to "read" the heretofore illegible script. The document is written in Greek and is the oldest known version of the Book of the Revelation. The tiny fragment confirms what many scholars and churchmen have long suspected. The text actually reads:

"Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man: and his number is 616."

So all you Satanic rock bands and fans better run out and get your tattoos fixed :P

Church Uses Harry Potter Books for VBS

(CBN News) - A Pennsylvania church has embraced the Harry Potter books in its vacation Bible school curriculum, and now enrollment has doubled.

Straight from the pages of the book, Saint John's Episcopal Church exposes students to magic and witchcraft, introducing spells and giving flying lessons on broomsticks.

The church does point out that the youngsters get a daily dose of Bible verses in what they call "owl mail."

Some Christians object to the occult messages in the popular novels, but the church's pastor believes Harry Potter's tales of wizardry parallel lessons from the Bible.

I posted this to someone else's journal comment and felt the need to repost it here:

YAY for global consciousness!

But I am still a major proponent of the Physician, Heal Thyself! philosophy.

Our consciousness is a lens through which the light of God shines into this world. Our problems, neurosis, issues, etc... are imperfections in this lens, distorting the light. It is our job, and truly the best way to make an impact in the world, to clean these lenses, to recreate ourselves into 'superhuman' patterns through which the Divine may shine with fewer obstructions. Karma is the word we use for the things that happen to redirect the distorted beams of light. The best thing we can do is to fix ourselves, let the Divine shine through us as clearly as possible, and the enlightening and ordering power of God, the Divine, whathaveyou, will make things right. People will see that light shining through you and it will awaken their own need for cleansing. This is the only way I can see the world being 'fixed', is by everyone taking responsibility, first and foremost for themselves, and awakening, cleansing their lenses, allowing in more Divine Light, illuminating the darkness of this World.
