I wrote an essay today comparing non-conformity to wrestling an alligator. If it fails to score well, at least it should be fairly interesting to read. Over all, I'd like to say my essay writing improved this semester, but we'll see. When I finally see my final score and the grade on my final paper, I'll know for sure. My TA didn't finish grading yet and said it was taking so long because, "I have been continually impressed by the near consistent experimentation with new forms of argument." I don't know if that's an honest praise or a backhanded compliment. Either way, I have to wait until Friday to discover if my writing is as mediocre as I think.

And thus, I am finished with this semester. It's the time of year when I just sit back and wait for the grades to roll in. I'm guessing ABs all around, but maybe I'll surprise myself. Or disappoint myself. This is a close to the feeling of gambling as I'm comfortable with.

I must prepare for a summer or early morning work outs, long bike rides, longer cabbing hours, hotter days, more air-conditioning, more grilling, less fireplace, more camping, darker tans, sweatier clothes, stronger deodorant.

Bring it on.

Now.

One morning we looked
backward.

We had never looked
backward
before.

Before is the name
of the beast we conjured
by looking
backward.

All we can do is strive
to stay a hair's breadth
before it.

One eye back, moving
forward.
